We decided today that we’re going to Las Vegas in November. Anyone care to offer suggestions for hotels/flights/sightseeing? I definitely want to visit Hoover Dam and the wax museum, but I don’t know what else is cool. We’ll probably be there for four days, from Saturday through Wednesday.
I can’t wait to hear what Joe’s mom thinks about this recent development. When she found out we were going to Missouri she commented that she thought we were saving money for a house. And we are. However, from what I’ve been reading, we already have enough for a down payment, although that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to continue to save. I like the security I feel having a nice chunk of change in the bank.
This is my theory on saving money – you can’t just save and save and save and never spend. You have to enjoy your money too. Life is short, and I’m certainly not going to wait until I’m retired to travel and have a good time. I want to do it now while I’m young and able to get around without difficulty. That’s not to say we’re spending money like water. I consider us very fortunate that even with Joe’s child support payments that we are able to spend rather freely and still save money monthly. I think we’ve both earned it, though. We work hard, and we’re frugal when it comes to stuff like groceries and whatnot so that we can splurge on entertainment. I’ve never been in this position before so I’m enjoying it. It always felt like I was living check to check and I hate that.
On a totally (but happy) unrelated note, I’ve lost four pounds since I started my new fitness/healthy eating life change. I weighed myself twice in the last two days to confirm and it’s been the same. Yay! I only have 36 lbs. to go. Haha.
I think you have it exactly right. Travel is a life experience – one you can enjoy best while younger, it’s a great thing to splurge on. I live like a university student myself still (I’m a working engineer now) – throw all my money in the bank. But whenever an opportunity to travel comes up, I take it. I’m willing to be frugal in other areas so I can have this luxury and I think it’s a great way to do things. I see women out there buying $200 shoes and $100 purses and – well – that’s just so not me. I live simply, have a fat bank account, and travel as much as I can.
So have a great, guilt-free, time in Vegas. (Haven’t been myself so I can’t suggest anything.)
I think you can also do helicopter tours of the north part of the Grand Canyon from Vegas, though I could be wrong. Don’t forget the Liberace Museum, either. And yeah: when you’re on vacation is not the time to count your pennies! Just have fun and create happy memories!
My favorite part of our Vegas trip was Valley of Fire State Park. Absolutely beautiful and sooooo worth the trip, and makes a nice full day-trip if you circle around and hit Hoover Dam on the way back. Red Rock Canyon is also nice and closer to town — especially great if you like to hike.
