A little bit of this, a little bit of that

Went back to work today after five wonderful days away. Blech! It’s like I go into an instant depression once it’s time to start working again. My job isn’t horrible (well, horribly boring most days, but easy at least), I just prefer being home. The time we had off just flew by.

In that time I missed more drama at The Cure’s official site with Robert posting snarky messages in the comments. The funniest thing about all of this is that it turns out that the supposed “rumors” posted at COF were in fact true: Perry Bamonte and Roger O’Donnell have left the band… or were they let go? I don’t even care enough to check. As I’ve learned over the years, The Cure has always thrived regardless of who was in the band because the central force, Robert Smith, is what drives the band’s direction.

Monday after dropping the kids off at home, we went to my parents’ to hook up my mom’s new computer. The time there just flew and before you knew it, we were on our way back home. I was torn between staying longer to play some games, and just going home to some peace and quiet. As much fun as I had with everyone visiting, it was time for some alone time.

We woke up at a decent hour on Tuesday so we could get a trip to the bank and grocery store in before going to see the first showing of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. As much as I wasn’t necessarily looking forward to seeing the movie, I enjoyed it and liked how everything tied together. In fact, I plan on watching the original movie this week since I barely remember it (last time I saw it I was a kid) and my interest has been peaked.

Before the movie began, I went to use the restroom and spotted Joe’s co-worker and his wife, whom we consider friends, at the concession stand. I walked over and said hi and told them where we were sitting so they could join us. Later when they entered the theatre, they sat in one of the lower rows (we always sit in the last row in the back). I didn’t mind since I know some people have a certain place in a theatre they prefer to sit, but they could have at least mentioned it. Not only that, but when the movie ended, they just took off.

This bothered me particularly because Joe and this guy had already discussed in advance us meeting up to the see the movie, but they weren’t sure they could make it. Based on their behavior, I’d normally just assume that they didn’t like us, but they’ve invited us to numerous parties at their home in the past, some of which we attended, so I’m not sure what the deal was. It just hurt my feelings and doesn’t help my efforts at self-improvement. You see, in the past I would have pretended I didn’t see them and just went about my business, but over the years I’ve made an effort to fight my antisocial tendencies and be friendlier. Stuff like that certainly doesn’t help me.

Thank goodness today is Wednesday and we have the weekend to ourselves in a few days. We doubled-up having the kids the following two weekends so we could go to Milwaukee on the 25th when we originally were supposed to have them. We’re going to a Nascar night race which I hope will be fun. I just can’t decide whether we should visit the zoo in the morning, or the museum where they are showing a Nascar IMAX film. I really love the Milwaukee Zoo, but my favorite exhibit, the big cats, has been closed since 2004 for renovations and won’t be re-opening until December. So I’m leaning toward the museum, but I worry it’s going to stink in comparison to what Chicago has to offer.

I need to find some things to do the two weekends we have the kids to keep everyone occupied. Otherwise they start to grate on both our nerves. It’s not that they are bad kids (in fact, they are so much better behaved than most), it’s just hard sometimes to deal with the constant noise and picky eating habits when you’re used to just the two of you the majority of the time. There really is no down time when you’re trying to keep track of two children. I really don’t understand why anyone would want to have more than two kids, but then again, I don’t understand why most people have them to begin with. You know, other than that whole keeping the world populated crap. As if we need more people on the earth.
