I finally started taking advantage of ACDSee’s built-in feature for categorizing photos. I have my own little filing and organizing system, but this just adds to it. See, I tend to split up my photos into three main categories – people, individual and series. The first two are usually just by year. The last one is split into dates. So it’s a very general filing scheme, and for the most part I don’t have a problem finding anything. What’s nice about assigning properties to each photo is I can give it keywords. So for instance, I can pull up all the photos I’ve taken of ducks. Really cool!
Another thing I’ve started doing is going back through my photos and deleting all the shit. In the past I would save any halfway decent photo just for kicks, but now I can’t imagine why. If it’s not good enough to use in any manner, than having it is rather pointless.
So once I’m done categorizing and purging, I’m going to re-burn everything so I don’t have to worry about it anymore.
