Halloween

Pumpkin #01

I guess we fared better than two years ago on the trick-or-treating front: we got six whole kids this year! (Last year we were at SeaWorld and missed the festivities altogether). Three middle school kids came as a group shortly after we got home but I can’t remember their costumes. They weren’t nearly as cute as the little boy ghost who wanted to come into our home. He was so polite too and he couldn’t have been older than three. Two of the neighbor’s kids stopped by as well: the girl next door was dressed as Pocahontas and the boy from across the street was a pirate. And that was it. Too bad because it’s the one day of the year I actually like seeing little kids. ;)

Hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween! Here are some photos from my company’s pumpkin decorating contest earlier today.

Anniversary Dinner

Know what really sucks? When you write a really long entry in a temporary notepad file, upload it to your Yahoo! briefcase, delete it from the temp file, then go home and realize you uploaded the wrong file and the entry is gone. Well screw writing another one.

So to make my interesting entry short about Texas de Brazil, the restaurant we dined at on our anniversary:

$6 bottle of water +
$9 in iced tea +
$13.50 in dessert +
$42.99 for one dinner (one was free, believe it or not)

= $100 after tax and tip.

Never again. The place was too pretentious and the food not nearly good enough.

Next time we’ll try The Melting Pot.

Carlos Mencia Punisher Tour

As I write this, Carlos Mencia is entertaining the second crowd tonight at the Rosemont Theater in the Chi-town suburbs. We saw his first show earlier this evening and it was hilarious. I wasn’t expecting him to have any opening acts, let alone three, but luckily all three comedians were very entertaining. While I really liked Cristela Alonzo, my favorite had to be Jo Koy. I’ve never heard of him before, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for him in the future. The evening just flew by because it was so entertaining. I hate to say it, but I laughed harder than I did when we saw Dane Cook (but I still love ya, Dane, no worries!). So much so, that my jaw is hurting again after it just started feeling better. Ah well, it was totally worth it!

Cici’s Pizza Buffet – A Review

Saturday we took the kids to Cici’s Pizza Buffet for lunch. I don’t think any of us were that impressed. For one, the $4.50 price on their site is a bit misleading because it doesn’t include drinks, whereas most other buffet prices I’ve seen do. No biggie, though, since the drinks are $1.50 making it $6 for the buffet which is still cheaper than most. Kids under 12 are $2.95 plus $.99 for their drink.

My bigger complaint is that the buffet itself is rather small and disorganized. It isn’t double-sided which makes it difficult to get your food if there’s anyone else at the counter at the same time. We went when it wasn’t very busy, so I can only imagine how it would be on a weekend evening.

The food was so-so. The pizza was good, the pasta was gross (this coming from a girl whose favorite food is spaghetti (Joe’s daughter)), and the salad was just ok. There are three salads to choose from: ceasar, anti-pasto, and I forget the last one. But there isn’t any dressing as it’s already on the salad. You can add croutons, but that’s about it.

Oh and the drink station was a complete mess. Considering how empty it was, I don’t find acceptable how messy everything was. Tables were waiting to be cleared well after people left and since only one person was working the register, we had to wait for five minutes for two ladies to get their to-go order just so we could pay and get our food.

Overall, I wouldn’t say I hated the place, but it’s not somewhere I’d recommend either and probably won’t be back there for a long time, if at all.

Tooth aches, card readers, and DS games

Ugh. I’ve been wanting to write about so many things this past week, but I just don’t have the time or energy. My teeth have been hurting like hell the past couple of days making it feel like my face is about to explode. Since it’s mostly my top back teeth, I think it’s sinus-related, but I’m not sure. I plan on making an appointment to see my doctor this weekend since I can’t take much more of this pain.

My 8-in-1 card reader died which blows because now I have to hook up my camera to download photos. I bought the reader a year ago and so far Lexar hasn’t been very helpful. I e-mailed them explaining how I’ve tried a different USB cord and even plugging it into another computer and it doesn’t even light up to indicate it’s plugged in or reading a card. I got an e-mail back from them suggesting the things I already did. I replied and asked whether they are going to fix it. I doubt they will, but if I don’t ask I’ll never know for sure. So now I need to buy a new one and I don’t think it will be another Lexar. Any suggestions? I need something that reads both Compact Flash and SD and is under $20. I only paid $9.99 for the one I had (amazing, since I see it everywhere online for $35).

It’s been super busy at work this week, making me ever so glad I’m off Friday. The stress is causing me to grind my teeth, which is making my teeth hurt even more. By the time I get home from work my jaw is killing me and I end up vegging out in front of the tv and playing with the Nintendo DS. Yesterday we went to Toys “R” Us and got three new games since it was buy two get one free: Tetris DS, New Super Mario Brothers, and Bubble Bobble Revolution. So far I’ve played Tetris and it’s even more fun than I remembered. We also got Dig Dug Digging Strike the other day for only $10.48. Other than the stupid story, it’s fun. I hate games that have a bunch of dialog you have to read before you get to the action. It is so annoying!

Anyway, time for bed. I’m hoping I can get a relief from the pain I’m in since two extra strength Tylenol and two Sudafeds haven’t had any positive effect.
