Flip-flops and me

I need to talk about flip-flops for a moment. Or as some people call them, thongs. I hate them. Or more like they hate me. I think they are so cute! They come in so many colors and styles, and I wish I could buy them and love them like apparently all the people in my office building who wear them every day (although personally, I wouldn’t wear them to the office because I think they look retarded with dress clothes).

But the thing is, they hurt my feet. Plus the feeling of the material between my toes bugs the living crap out of me. How do you people stand it? I never wore them as a kid because I hated that feeling, and then I bought a pair at Target the other day figuring it might just be a matter of having to get used to them, and I nearly crippled myself walking around the kitchen for less than five minutes. My toes were hurting for half an hour afterwards. Maybe my toes are too close together or something.

I guess you could say I am flip-flop challenged. :(

Bloated = stay away from dressing room

I decided to stop at the nicer Walmart (is that an oxymoron? probably) in my old neighborhood after work today. I figured shopping alone would afford me the opportunity to find some clothes without feeling guilty about Joe waiting around for me, bored out of his mind.

I realize Walmart is not the fashion mecca of the world, but sometimes I find some decent stuff. I’m not about the designer labels. As long as I like how it looks on me, I’m game. I don’t really have one store I favor over another when it comes to clothes; it’s usually hit and miss at most stores for me. Sometimes I like Target, the next week I find a bunch of stuff at Kohl’s, two weeks later it’s Sears. Sometimes I even shop at Carson’s. Old Navy is on my shit list at the moment. But I digress.

Today was a miss day. I swear I tried on at least 12 different things, and I came home with one shirt that was on clearance for $5. My advice? Don’t clothes shop when you’re bloated. It’s just not worth the damage it does to one’s self-esteem.

Worse yet, the women’s restroom was out of order and I really had to go so I skipped another trip to the fitting room and went home, defeated. I sure hope some of the newer clothes I bought recently look decent on me tomorrow. We’re taking the kids to Indiana Beach and it’s supposed to be hot & humid which means tank top and shorts. I’m scared already. I better try on a few outfits tonight since we’ll be getting up early enough as it is – damn Indiana observes DST now so they are an hour ahead of us!

Kielbasa x9

I almost forgot to write about this! I was relating my Butterball turkey sausage saga to my mom yesterday when she said she was pretty sure a grocery store in Indiana, called Strack and Van Til, carried it. She called over there and sure enough, they had a bunch in stock. So while I was battling my brother on Tetris, and Joe was working on the DSL issues, my parents ran to the store and bought 11 packages of the turkey kielbasa. My mom kept two and we took 9 home.

I’m so happy! I wonder if they’ve only discontinued distribution in Illinois. I sure hope so! Hell, I’d be willing to drive to Indiana every few months if that means I get to keep eating my favorite sausage. At the very least, we’ll get to enjoy it for a little longer. I put six in the freezer and three in the fridge since they are good until June 23rd.

Isn’t my mom nice?

Memorial Day

I had to say something about the chirping birds in my last entry, didn’t I? They would not shut up this morning. For whatever reason they were more obnoxious than usual.

I just ate the most delicious dinner. We grilled two t-bones and made two huge baked potatoes to go along with them. The steak came out very tender and flavorful; didn’t even need the A-1. I think we get better at grilling every year.

Earlier Joe dyed my hair… twice. The first time there were a few spots that didn’t take. We went to Sally Beauty Supply to pick up more hair-dye and got some tips on how to re-do it from the helpful staff. I should shop there more often – they have good products, reasonable prices, and great service. After Joe did the touch-ups, the coloring is much more uniform. Overall it turned out a bit darker than I was expecting, but it looks good, so I’m happy.

Didn’t do much else today except clean and do laundry. We got up a little later than usual and did some grocery shopping, then spent a good part of the afternoon dealing with my hair.

Yesterday we brought a bucket of chicken and corn-on-the-cob to my parents’ house for a pre-Memorial Day celebration. I’m guessing that no one is going to want to play Pictionary with us anymore since we kicked butt at it, as always. It was fun, even if Joe spent hours trying to figure out why they are having so many problems with their DSL connection. I’m so frustrated with it that I think they should switch to cable and be done with it. We never have issues with our cable internet connection.

I’m sad that we’ve reached the end of our three-day weekend. I could get used to staying home and never working again. Who wouldn’t, right? At least we’ve got another extended weekend coming up since we took Friday off to take the kids to Indiana Beach. I think I can handle working only three days this week.

Hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday!

Stinky

It sure would be nice if we could get some fresh air in the house without cigarette smoke as a bonus. The neighbors on each side smoke. I don’t get it, if there’s more non-smokers than smokers, how come the smokers always live next door to us? Man, I can’t wait to move! I know it’s years away from now, but I long for the day we have no neighbors within smelling distance, surrounded by nothing but nature. I’ll take the early morning birds chirping incessantly to the smell of cigarette smoke any day.
