Not a dull moment

We attended a volunteer event sponsored by Joe’s employer at the Northern Illinois Food Bank yesterday. The volunteers helped with a variety of duties including packing boxes of food/supplies, labeling meats, and sterilizing packaging. It was tiring work and I really wanted to take a nap once we got home but couldn’t because it was Brother #1’s birthday party at my parents’. As usual, we stayed far too late playing board games and didn’t crawl into bed until 1:30 am.

It was with great reluctance with which we dragged out butts out of bed this morning, but it had to be done. We hit Lowes for a few supplies for Joe to finish tiling the foyer and guest bath, which he’s working on right now while I slowly starve to death thinking about all the yummy leftovers from the party sitting in our fridge that I can’t eat until he’s done.

We also purchased a squirrel baffle so that I will never again have to deal with the pesky squirrels messing with our bird feeder. Enjoy the video I took on Wednesday when I was working from home.

Mmmm… brains

Borrowed

See that book at the bottom of the stack in the photo? It’s like an almanac about animals with all sorts of fascinating data about them. I love books like that. Always have. One of my favorite books as a kid was an illustrated dictionary. I shit you not. But it wasn’t nearly as cool as this one.

I don’t know what it is about getting “new” books that brings me so much joy. Perhaps the promise of learning something new. And after years of only borrowing one type of book at a time, I have finally found my balance between real life and fantasy – I’m reading fiction during my lunch break and non-fiction at night.

I’m such a geek, but I don’t care. It beats being a dumbass.

Me, an athlete?

I was at the doctor’s office recently and after the nurse took my blood pressure and pulse I asked her if they were good. Her response, “Yes. Are you an athlete?” LMAO!

The sad thing is I haven’t worked out in quite awhile and have gained 5 lbs. as a result. Which I guess isn’t too horrible, but it irks me because I was so close to being my ideal size and now I’m between sizes which means most of my jeans no longer fit. I refuse to buy any bigger sizes so I guess I’m going to have to get in shape.

Maybe I should get a dog; without a yard I’d have to walk it daily and that would force me to move my butt.

Warm

It’s so warm in my house that I’m actually wearing shorts and no socks. I know, I can barely believe it myself!

forecast

Gonna have to get outside tomorrow and enjoy the weather while we can – more cold and rain is coming our way. I really can’t wait until it’s nice enough to start exploring the forest preserves and whatnot again. I miss our early morning photo excursions.

This pointless entry was brought to you by the letters B-O-R-E and D.

Pepperoni & Provolone Stromboli

stromboli I picked up a new frozen item at the store the other day – Stouffer’s Pepperoni & Provolone Stromboli. It is described as “Thick-cut pepperoni with aged Provolone cheese and chunky tomato sauce in Italian-style crust”.

Mmmm… is it good! I’m not a big fan of tomato sauce but there’s just the right amount inside. Not too much that it leaked, but enough from keeping it from being dry. The combination of flavors is perfect and it’s large enough to be filling but not so big you’ll be disgusted. Plus it isn’t greasy at all. I’ll definitely be buying more.
