Some bad, some good

I’m a little peeved that Aziz Ansari is selling what he’s calling a “brand new standup special” for $5 on his website and it’s anything but. Perhaps it’s the first time it’s on film, but most reasonable people would expect it to be new material, not stuff from almost two years ago! Imagine my disappointment after downloading it and finding I heard all those same jokes in person in June 2010. I guess this is why Louis C.K. is king. He was the first to offer the $5 download option last December and it was all new material… and we had just seen him in June of the same year!

Conditioner

The conditioner pictured here is awesome. My scalp has been itching like crazy lately so I went to Whole Foods and found some SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) free shampoo as well as this special soothing conditioner. At $9 a bottle it’s not cheap but not only has the itching almost disappeared after only four days of use but my hair has never felt softer. My hair isn’t falling out as much as before either.

Another Great Weekend

DuPage County Historical Museum

Friday morning we visited the DuPage County Historical Museum. It’s pretty small but had interesting facts about the development of our county and the surrounding communities. On the second floor was a tribute to the Girl Scouts who are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year and there’s a huge model train yard set up in the basement of the building which was cool to see.

Horse

From the museum we headed to Cosley Zoo to take photographs. I also wanted to add another frog to my collection of figurines but they didn’t have any in the gift shop anymore. After the zoo we stopped at the Danada Equestrian Center for a bit to see the horses and then headed down South to pick up K for the weekend (E had a band competition so he couldn’t make it).

On the way back home we stopped at Chick-Fil-A for lunch. I didn’t appreciate how good their food was the first time they came to Illinois because their chicken nuggets aren’t impressive, but I’ve since become a fan after trying the basic chicken sandwich and the chicken biscuit during breakfast. I tried the ice cream for the first time on Friday and loved it as well.

Saturday we went to see 21 Jump Street. It was much funnier than we expected. I haven’t laughed that much at a movie in so long. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to miss out on this gem by assuming it’s dumb when in actuality it’s the best comedy to come out in a long time. After the movie we went to FiveBelow which is a cute store where everything is $5 or less. I ended up getting a stylus for my iPad which I’m really digging. I haven’t used my finger since. :)

Sunday we did a little Spring cleaning in the garage and washed my car. We also cleaned our bikes, filled the tires and went for a short ride. Then we went to Houlihan’s where we enjoyed lunch on the patio since it was such a gorgeous day. This was immediately followed by some errands which included stopping at Whole Paycheck Foods for some Sodium Lauryl Sulfate free shampoo and conditioner which will hopefully help rid me of the seriously itchy scalp I’ve been suffering from for the past two weeks. My head is already feeling better after three uses!

Upon returning home we brought our folding chairs out and sat in the driveway for awhile surfing on our tablets and enjoying the gorgeous weather. It’s the modern equivalent of reading the newspaper on the porch since we have no porch and our patio sucks because it lacks shade and is surrounded by smokers which equals no fresh air. After we grew tired of sitting around we went for a walk.

It was such a great weekend I didn’t want it to end.

Feeling Good

I’m in a good mood which is sorely needed after the way I’ve been feeling lately. I think it’s at least in part due to the weather which is currently sunny and warm. I hate winter and I hope it’s behind us. The forecast has us in the 70’s the rest of the week. Woot!

I’m also excited because we both have Friday off. Three day weekends are the best!!! I don’t even care what we do – we don’t have any definitive plans but it’s going to be nice out so that’s all I care about.

Wow, what a pointless blog post, eh? Ok, here’s a few random thoughts rolling around in my mind.

What’s the deal with iTunes Home Sharing? It stopped working at some point after the last iTunes update. I spent some time today trying to figure it out. Then the router spontaneously rebooted and suddenly it was working again. Weird.

Speaking of Apple, it cracks me up how when I plug my iPad into my computer it says “Not Charging” in the upper right-hand corner. I imagine it’s thinking “haha sucker, you are not going to charge me that way”. Ironically, it is charging, albeit slowly. It was at 35% battery when I plugged it in and now it’s at 39%. Silly little thing.

I think we’re going to be changing our Fall trip to ensure we maximize our time on the East Coast. Even though we’re passing through Pennsylvania we probably won’t stop as originally intended. Since it’s closer to us than Boston or Portland we could always make that its own trip since I’d love to visit Pittsburgh, Hershey and Philadelphia. However, since we’re going to literally drive right through it, we’re going to spend a day in New York City. A day is all I can wrestle out of the hubby since he has zero desire to visit New York. It’s low on my list as well but it would be silly not to stop. All I care about seeing is Central Park Zoo anyway. Is that weird? Maybe we should visit the Empire State Building too. And the Statue of Liberty. And Times Square. And the Brooklyn Bridge. Hmmm, maybe one day is not going to cut it. Joe is going to kill me when he sees this list… ;)

My latest iOS addiction – Draw Something. It’s Pictionary without rules!

Philips Portable Speaker follow-up

As a follow-up to this post, I wanted to document that I received the replacement speaker in the mail at the beginning of the week. That evening I switched the batteries from my current unit to the new one and was experiencing the same exact problem. At that point it occurred to me that maybe the batteries were to blame, so I switched them out for new ones and the speaker worked fine, which means the original speaker probably wasn’t broken to begin with (didn’t even think to put new batteries in that one to check). I’m surprised the person at Philips didn’t ask about this. Surely this isn’t the first time they’ve heard of such an issue.

I’m still going to ship back my original unit to them via FedEx (pre-paid postage was included), and despite how very accommodating they’ve been I don’t think I’d buy another portable speaker again due to how quickly it eats through batteries. I barely used my original unit before having issues so it doesn’t seem like a very cost-effective solution particularly because it uses AAA batteries and I only have a charger and rechargeable batteries in AA.
