To Whom It May Concern

Dear Video Game Designers,

Please program more than one song to play during a game or I’m going to bash you over the head with my PS2 so that you’ll have that one irritatingly stupid song stuck in your head on repeat for hours at a time!

Pardon me while I try to encourage the boy to play a different game before I lose my mind.

Dane Cook is coming to Chi-Town

See that guy to the left? Not only is he the funniest comedian around, but guess who is seeing him live next month? Yep, that would be Joe and me! I got an e-mail this morning from Dane’s mailing list announcing a Chicago show on April 13th at Allstate Arena. I was so excited, I almost couldn’t contain myself! The pre-sale was at 9 am and we managed to snag decent seats considering how much they were asking. I love Dane, but I couldn’t stomach spending $100 each to sit in 30th row. I’m afraid only Robert Smith can hold the honor of no price is too high. It cost over $100 as it is and we chose the second to cheapest ticket option. I just hope Dane has some new material. I assume so since he’s filming his HBO special in Boston just two days later. We’re way up in the balcony, but not too far from the stage.

I think I’ll bring the binoculars just in case. ;)

Prickly

Yesterday we went to a reptile swap to check out some hedgehogs. We’ve been mulling over the idea of getting one for over a month now. We’ve done research online, I’ve read books, and we trolled pet stores. Only one small mom and pop store had them, and the girl there recommended the swap because there are breeders there that have young hedgehogs. There were actually three booths that were selling them, and we got to hold some from two of them. They were a lot friendlier than I was expecting. Very cute too.

The only thing that’s preventing me from making a decision is the initial cost (a good $70 for the hedgehog alone plus another $100 or so for supplies) and the lack of an ideal place for the cage in our home. Hedgehogs require plenty of sunlight and a room temperature of about 70 degrees which is higher than the thermostat setting during the day while we’re at work or at night when we’re sleeping. There’s heating pads and whatnot that can be bought, but it’s another added expense. And when you come right down to it, a hedgehog still isn’t a cat or dog. So I’m torn. I want a pet, but I’m not sure I want the responsibility that goes along with it. I remember what a pain cleaning my hamsters’ cages were. At least with a cat the fun of having one around would outweigh the work. I’m not so sure the same could be said for a hedgehog even though they are really really cute. We’re limited in the type of pets we can have until Joe’s son is older, so a cat is out of the question.

Later in the evening we went to my parents’ to hang out and play games. We didn’t get home til midnight and I was exhausted. It was quite a busy day! We haven’t done anything today, which feels like a waste of a perfectly good day away from work. It’s snowing outside and Joe is working on installing the new faucets we bought for the downstairs and kids’ bathrooms. We’ll probably run out to Home Depot, Target, and Walgreens in a bit. Sundays just have an overall depressing feel to them. I wish every day was Saturday.

New Year’s Prep

My co-worker convinced me to go to Party City during lunch today to buy some New Year’s decorations, so I made her come with me. I blame her for the $30 charge to my Discover. I don’t mind, though, as long as the kids enjoy themselves. I wonder if they will actually be awake come midnight or not. Anyone care to wager on it?

This one employee at the store really shouldn’t be working in an environment where she deals with customers. She got mad that she was called from the stockroom to help check us out and said loudly, “I am never going to get anything done with all these customers coming in”. We’re so sorry for wanting to give you our business. I looked at the lady waiting behind me and said, “Nice of them to complain about customers in front of us, huh?”

Go Sox!

So the White Sox are going to the World Series! Awesome! You know, I am no sports fan by any means, but it’s exciting nonetheless. I actually enjoyed last night’s game too because the Sox played so well.

The thing I don’t understand, however, is the attitude of Cubs fans. Some refuse to cheer on the Sox while others have the attitude, “if they win, fine, but if they don’t, I don’t give a rat’s ass”. I can’t relate because while I’d consider myself a Sox fan over a Cubs fan, I also consider myself a Chicago fan, and if the Cubs were going to the World Series, I’d be excited and cheering them on too. Why choose? They both represent the city I was born in.

Oh well. Maybe it’s because I’m not a very competitive person. I hope the Sox win the World Series, though! I’m going to have to keep a close eye on Joe since the World Series is during our vacation. If we’re in the hotel with nothing to do, I don’t mind watching some baseball, but I’m not going out of my way to watch it.
