Video game obsession

LOL, this auction on ebay is hilarious!

My mom hated my brother’s addiction to video games so much that one time she unplugged the Nintendo and threw it down the basement stairs. My brother practically fell down the stairs going after it and screamed “Nooooo!” during the process, not unlike those in dramatic movies when a fellow soldier bites the dust (person on their knees, hands toward the sky). To this day we make fun of him for it.

It’s time

Last night Joe’s parents called to inform him that they’ve decided to sell their house, and for now, are moving to Arizona. The house goes on the market June 1st. Wow, talk about turning things upside down. Well, that alone was shocking, but it gets better. His mom then tells him she wants to give him the king-sized bed, the kitchen table, and his dad’s tools, complete with large tool cabinet. In addition, he can have their Toyota Corolla, which is currently in Arizona, if he’d be willing to fly down there and drive it back. Of course, that means *I* would have to fly along with him, which I am terrified to do, but it is still tempting because we could spend a few days out there, plus I’d only have to fly one way, so if I totally freak, I don’t have to stress about flying back.

Obviously, we have no room for all this stuff, living in a one bedroom apartment with three vehicles already. We’d have to get some massive storage space just to hold the furniture, not to mention all of Joe’s stuff he’s been storing at their house like our bikes and his motorcycle. Me thinks we need a house, pronto.

Which leads me to the biggest, bestest news – Joe’s mom said she’d give us a considerable amount of money as long as it was used toward a house. Well sign me up! I guess the hunt begins now. I’m going to the library tomorrow to get some books about buying a house, mortgages, and all that fun stuff.

Ice cream internet

Out of the blue last week, my mom called me and asked if I would teach her how to use the internet. This coming from the woman who doesn’t understand, nor like, computers. But hey, I’m flexible.

So after stopping by the zoo today to catch a glimpse of the new baby polar bear (he wasn’t around, darn!), we went to my parents’ house to create a login for my mom on my brother’s computer. I also set up a Yahoo! account for her, so now I can send my mom email. Fun!

My mom can be really sweet, too. Last time we were visiting, I was bitching and moaning how I’ve always wanted an ice cream cake for my birthday but have never gotten one. So guess what my mom had for dessert today? You guessed it – ice cream cake. Woo hoo! I’m not ashamed to admit that I ate two slices.

We had a good time visiting today. We always do; we have fun when we get together. That’s cause we’re all dysfunctional and vulgar. :)

If we lived closer, we’d probably visit more often. Then I could at least harass my brother more and get him to learn how to play Cure songs on his guitar. Maybe I’ll get a guitar and learn them myself. I’ve been thinking about it for awhile.

Merry Christmas

This is how it used to work when my grandparents were still with us – Christmas Eve we’d (meaning my brothers, parents and me) would open our presents after dinner sometime between 7-8 pm and then we’d go to Midnight Mass. On Christmas day we’d go to both sets of grandparents for dinner and more presents. Times have changed, though. And maybe that’s why even though we had a great day, it just doesn’t feel like Christmas to me.

We slept in, then started cooking; we made mashed potatos and broccoli/cauliflower casserole. Half of it was to bring over to my parents’ and the other half is for our intimate Christmas dinner for just the two of us tomorrow.

Around 2pm we left for my parents’ and arrived just before 3pm. For two hours we ran back and forth working on my brothers’ computers. Joe ended up reinstalling my one brother’s Windows XP entirely because he had too many parasites that couldn’t be removed. We keep telling him it’s because of the porn sites that he visits, but I guarantee you he’ll screw up his machine again. My other brother had a few minor issues with some programs – his AIM is acting all weird and even uninstalling and reinstalling wasn’t helping so I introduced him to Trillian. He was really mellow and pretty entertaining as he was doped up on Vicadin from the oral surgery he had earlier in the day.

We ate dinner around 5pm, and in usual fashion, there was plenty to choose from – lasagna, fried chicken, three kinds of potatos, my casserole, meat loaf, salad, corn, peas, potato salad and more. It was all delicious too! We sat around a bit more and then opened presents.

Much to my surprise, my brothers seemed to actually enjoy their presents, which I think I mentioned before were books. I got the older brother “Idiots Guide to the Internet” and the “Odd Todd Handbook”. The youngest brother got “Faster Smarter Windows XP” as well a book on photography and another book on playing the guitar since he wants to learn. I gave my Mom season 3 of MASH on DVD, my Dad some pajama pants and a Beach Boys cd, and my cousin a Blockbuster gift card.

Between everyone I got – way too many candles, the complete first three seasons of Friends on DVD, a Target gift card and money. Joe got candy, a Speedracer DVD, a Target gift card and money also.

When Joe and I got home we made hot chocolate and opened our presents from one another. He got me the fifth season of Friends so now I need season 4 to make my collection complete (until they release the other seasons anyway). He also got me Wipeout Fusion for the Playstation 2 which is my favorite game. I got him an Indiana Jones box set and a headset to use with his Socom game on the PS2.

And now I feel like a 10 year old going on and on about what I got for Christmas. LOL! So I leave you with a photo of my parents’ house decorated for Christmas. Goodnight!

Good Times

It’s been a good weekend thus far, and we’ve still got two more full days off before it’s back to the grind.

We spent Thanksgiving with my family until 6:30 pm when we left to pick up the kids. Yesterday we went to the Spaghetti Warehouse for lunch. We’ve never been there before and I must say I was impressed with the place. I’m not big on Italian food by any means, but their food is good and the prices are very reasonable. The kids meals are only $3.49 and come with a huge bowl of soup, a large-sized entree, drink and dessert. I was surprised by how much food the kids got. We took advantage of the lunch menu and got toasted ravioli for an appetizer as well. Our bill only came to $25 for the four of us. Not bad at all. I highly recommend the place.
