Rhymes with wired

Lots of running around this weekend and now I’m tired.

Yesterday we took the kids here and here and then to Walmart for school clothes and supplies.

Today we went to K-Mart, The Container Store, Party City, and Target before heading out to Blue Island to the Italian Festival. Silly us, actually expecting them to have food prepared by 1:30 pm. Their pizza booth was empty, and we were informed that none would be ready for at least another hour. So we left and grabbed some pizza from Palermos instead. Came home, and relaxed.

I’m too tired at the moment to think much, let alone write. I will probably be asleep within the hour. Thank god I’m only working four days this week.

Playmobil & Playdoh

I’m sure these toys have been around forever, but I didn’t know about Playmobil until a few years ago. For whatever reason, they’re not sold at places like Walmart or Target. I usually see them at no-name toy and book stores. And I’ve gotta tell you, they make a part of me yearn to be a kid again. They have the coolest animal figures. I even saw an Orca (aka Killer Whale) one today. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I was almost tempted to get it. I would have been in my glory with all the animal sets as a kid. Not that I’m complaining – I still had lots of fun playing with my plastic animal figures in the sandbox at my grandparents’ house. Those days just seem so very far away. I feel like I’m getting old.

Oh man, I was just talking to Joe about this entry and had an epiphany – if I bought those toys for the kids, I’d have an excuse to play with them too. Hell yeah. I’m a genius! It’s like the Playdoh we bought last week at Target. It was dirt cheap, and there were so many different colors. The boy and I made snakes with some of it yesterday (here’s mine and here’s the boy’s) while Joe was cleaning his parents’ pool so we could go swimming. God, I love the smell of Playdoh. I used to eat it as a kid too. Whaaat? It’s non-toxic!

Wanna hear something sad? While we were playing yesterday, the boy told me his mommy never plays with him or his sister. No wonder they’re all over me when they’re here. That explains a lot.

Just Breathe

Ahhhh … we’re finally home and able to relax. This weekend was a whirlwind of activity. We were invited to a birthday party yesterday for the daughter of Joe’s friend. It was a pool party! The nice thing was that it was at the fitness center down the street from where we live. In the fourteen months that we’ve lived here, we’ve never set foot in the fitness building because we had no plans of joining. Membership is $380 per person, per year. Rather steep, if you ask me. That’s more than $1 a day and despite its close proximity, we’d never use it often enough to warrant the money. So when we got inside, boy we were impressed. This place is not only huge, but it’s clean and not nearly as crowded as I thought (the parking lot is always packed). They have racquetball courts, a bunch of gyms, an indoor track, a huge fitness room with equipment and weights (although we didn’t see too much of it since it’s on the second floor), and three pools.

We were in the children’s pool, of course. It was really cool, though. The kids had a blast – even the boy who was scared to go in at first. Within fifteen minutes he was splashing around and going into the “deep” end (which I believe is only three feet). I took a picture of the pool since it’s so cute (taken w/ Joe’s Coolpix 885). When we got home, everyone was pretty tired, so we watched tv before it was time for the kids to go to bed.

This morning we drove the kids home so they could go to church. We came home, showered, and went to Joe’s parents’ to visit, but they weren’t home. So we ended up at the mall instead. After shopping for a bit, we picked the kids up and went to my parents’. We visited for a few hours, dropped the kids off, and got home a bit ago.

Now we’re going for a walk. We both fell off the fitness wagon, so to speak, so we’re making an effort to get back on. I’m trying to look at it as a plan to be healthier, not necessarily lose weight, so that maybe I’ll stay motivated.

Boring!

Ok, I’ve been trying to find some new, interesting journals to read, and it’s just not working. Why does it seem like every journal I come across tonight is either written by someone who hasn’t updated in a month, or someone talking non-stop about their children? I don’t begrudge anyone who has children and writes about them constantly – it’s your prerogative, and trust me, I’d probably be writing about my cat all the time if I had one, but I’m just not interested in reading journals about kids.

Perhaps the lack of reading material is an indication that I’ve been online too long. I would go to bed, but it’s Sunday night, and I hate giving into Mondays, so I tend to stay up later than normal in a futile attempt to put off the inevitable.

Oh and speaking of being online, my brother has decided he wants to join the rest of the world and get a computer and internet access. He’s completely computer illiterate, yet due to the amount of money he has allotted for us to build him a machine, he’s going to own a computer that puts mine to shame. The good news, however, is that I will never ever ever have to burn another cd for him for as long as I live. And that is a very good thing™.
