Bye bye dipshits

When I went to my mom’s this weekend for my brother’s birthday party, I noticed that the next door neighbor’s house is for sale. These neighbors, much like the majority of the block, were never very friendly, although the one girl (of the two), who was older than me, baby-sat me a couple of times, and she seemed nice.

The dad and my dad have gotten into squabbles over the years over stupid crap like us parking in front of their house (even though they don’t own the street, or seemed to care when they parked in front of our house), us going on their lawn (as kids) to retrieve our way-ward balls when playing catch, sprinklers and the water touching their grass (ooo big deal), cigarette butts being flicked onto our lawn and roof from the teenage girls and their friends, etc. Fun times.

Not to mention how the dad would start mowing the lawn at 7 am on a Saturday and not finish until 10 am or later due to all the “breaks” he’d take that involved alcohol. It’s too bad he didn’t run over his own foot, now that I think back on it. The funny thing is, they had a swimming pool that took up the majority of the yard, so I’m not sure what took so long. Personally, I think the guy did it on purpose just to aggravate us because my mom typically slept til noon or later.

Needless to say, they won’t be missed. I took a look on realtor.com to see how much they were asking for the place and couldn’t help but notice how misleading their listing was. Seeing as how their house is set up identically to my parents’ house, I know for a fact that their “dining room” is really the eat-in kitchen and that the family room is really the basement, even though they have them both listed as if they are separate rooms. I feel sorry for the people who waste their time looking at the place. That’s not to say it isn’t updated, as I’m sure it’s more up-to-date than my parents’ house (just think shag carpet, ok?), but to make it seem like this is more square footage than really exists is wrong. Not that I’m surprised – once an a$$, always an a$$. Good to see their a$$es won’t be around much longer, though!

MTV Icon: The Cure

There was a special on this weekend on MTV 2 called MTV Icon: The Cure. I think it would have been better if it hadn’t been hosted by Marilyn Manson. It’s funny because I actually like some of his songs, but I don’t like him as a person. It just seems like he wears all that makeup and acts like he does just for the sake of being different and getting attention. Whereas I feel that Robert Smith wears makeup to help combat his shyness. There’s something about him that gives me the impression that even after all these years of performing onstage that he is actually rather shy and can be more himself to perform when covered in makeup.

Anyway, I liked the parts where they went through a bit of the band history, and they showed the cute cartoons of Robert, but I wasn’t all that impressed with the covers these bands did of Cure songs as The Cure sat on the sidelines and watched. I couldn’t help but feel that Robert wasn’t impressed either. To be fair, the cover of If Only Tonight We Could Sleep by The Deftones was rather good, but it’s not high on my list of favorite Cure songs. Blink182 did a cover of a song I really like, called A Letter To Elise, but the tempo and singing was too fast and annoyed me. I’ll admit, I don’t think anyone can do a Cure song very well. Let’s not even talk about that horrible cover of Friday I’m In Love that was in the movie 50 First Dates. There is one exception when it comes to covers, however: Sinking, by The Shroud, is better than The Cure’s version. I never cared for that song all that much until hearing the cover.

After the cover songs and some more random band info, The Cure actually got on stage and did a song from the new album (forget the name) and 10.15 Saturday Night. I got lost in how amazing The Cure sounds live, and I have yet to hear them do poorly. They are truly a great band – they write their own music and lyrics and play their own instruments. That’s music to me. Not Britney White-Trash Spears.

Allergies

I went for some lovely allergy testing this afternoon where I was poked with many needles, and the results are that I am allergic to two trees (maple and oak), one grass (bahia – wth is that?), 8 different molds, and housedust mites. The mites are what freaks me out. Did you know that the average number of mites in a bed is 2,000,000? That’s just disgusting. And you can’t see mites as they are microscopic, but 84% of homes have detectable levels of dust mite allergens in their bed(s). So I guess I’m supposed to start washing my bedding more often.

I also was given a prescription for Singulair and Allegra. Just add those to the two maintenance drugs I already take that I wish I didn’t have to. I feel chronic. I really hate to see how many medications I’m on when I’m old. Yeesh!

The interesting thing was that I wasn’t allergic to any animals. I could have sworn I had allergies to dogs, and some cats, but the tests didn’t pick that up. So there is hope that one day, when Joe’s kids are older, I will be a pet owner. Although considering what a control freak I am and how clean I try to keep my house, it’s doubtful. Unless I become rich and give my pets their own house, that is. :)

V-Day

20050214-001_t.jpg Happy Valentine’s Day! How did your spend yours? Me: working, eating chinese, and spending time with Joe.

I’m really ticked at 1-800-Flowers. Joe ordered a dozen and a half roses in various colors which were delivered to me at work today. Yay for romantic gestures! The only problem was they don’t look so hot. The edges of each rose is brown and they look like they’ve been sitting around for days, instead of being fresh. He tried calling them to complain, and the phone just rang and rang. So tomorrow, time to have some words. It’s not like those flowers are cheap.

Burn baby, burn!

We picked up a Sony dvd burner from Circuit City this morning. As you know, I’m not particularly fond of Sony because their products are usually over-priced, but with the $30 rebate, the burner was only $99. Plus it is so sweet! I just backed up all the photos I’ve taken from 2001 to present to a total of 4 dvds. Compare that to how many cds I would have had to burn, and it’s just amazing! Now I have to back up my MP3 collection which is currently at 26.7GB. Hmmm … I might have to weed out the crap first.
