You Better Recognize

As you all know, I called in sick yesterday. Turns out the Finance department was supposed to have a group meeting which I figured I missed. Until I got to work and found out it had been rescheduled for today. I surmised it was because so many people took yesterday off. I couldn’t have guessed it was because *I* was the guest of honor!

Turns out I won my company’s monthly indispensability award. Boy, did my face turn red when it was announced and all attention turned to me! I had to go to the front of the room and have my picture taken with the CFO.

Ironically, I had just pointed out this morning to two girls in Collections how no one from Finance had won yet and we needed to “represent”. ;)

Now, I’ve won the quarterly Finance award (twice, in fact), but this is company-wide; i.e. lots of recognition. Not only did I get my picture on the company’s intranet, I got a plaque, a check for $500, and a high five from the CFO who nominated me.

After our CEO sent an e-mail to the rest of the company making the announcement, I also got lots of nice e-mails from my colleagues congratulating me and expressing how much they felt I deserved the recognition. It was really nice to hear. I still have the warm fuzzies thinking about it.

  1. Congrats! $500? WOW!!! I forget what it’s like to work for a “real” company. We usually get a coffee mug for Christmas and bonuses are unheard of, but in today’s economy…I’m thinking we might get a paper cup!
