I love Comedy

Faced with very few choices at the video store the other day, I thought back to the recent commercials I’ve been seeing regarding Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie, and decided to take a chance. I highly recommend you see it as well, because it was really funny. Each comic, with his own unique style, kept me laughing the entire 108 minutes. I think it’s cool that all the guys are friends in real life as well.

What was interesting, as Joe pointed out to me, is that none of the comics swore at all. Now, compared with The Original Kings of Comedy, which featured the F word every other sentence, and you start to realize that vulgarity isn’t necessary for a good laugh. Yea, that is news to me, actually. I typically find myself gravitating toward the vulgar stuff (e.g. South Park). So that was a rather interesting observation.

The only funny comic, if I recall correctly, was D.L. Hughley, which was surprising as well as disappointing because I’ve always considered Bernie Mac to be quite entertaining. I do enjoy his show when I happen to catch it. I don’t care for Cedric the Entertainer at all. I hate those stupid McDonald’s commercials he’s in too. He just gets under my skin for some reason.

Do you want to know who the funniest comic is, in my opinion? Dave Chappelle. I love that guy. His show never ceases to crack me up. That skit where he plays a blind black guy who thinks he’s white and hates blacks is the funniest thing ever. Dave has a fantastic way of touching on racial issues without coming across bitter and angry, unlike Chris Rock (although I do like him too, just not nearly as much).

I caught a new HBO Comedy special today featuring Ellen DeGeneres and was surprised to find her funny. I don’t recall ever liking that woman. So the question is, am I becoming more open-minded, or is she actually more entertaining than she used to be?

While we’re on the subject of funny people, has anyone caught that new Comedy Central show, Reno 911? I’ve watched a few episodes before commenting, but I think it’s hilarious. I’ve ditched all the reality shows and don’t plan on watching any of them this season. It’s just getting to be too much, and honestly, I’ve always found sitcoms more entertaining anyway.

Who is your favorite comic?

  1. I really like Martin Lawrence. Sure he uses alot of foul language but I still like him. I like Chris Rock too, he may be annoying but he breaks things downs for ya in a way that makes sense. There’s also a Queens of Comedy, not quite as good but good for a few laughs.

  2. One of my favorites is Dave Atell from Comedy Central’s Insomniac. That guy is funny. And Nicole, are you catching the vapors for Ellen DeGeneres? See, even I’m a little funny.

  3. I miss your comments option on all posts. I understand why you got rid of them, but sometimes I just want to comment! :) I actually wanted to tell you that I LOVE the picture of the red butterfly on the red flower. That is an amazing photo!
