I can’t believe the commercial I just saw. Is Philip Morris not the biggest hypocrites in the entire universe? There is no other industry in the world where you can actively advise against buying your own product with the full knowledge that you’re still going to rake in millions of sales. Which further proves that the single driving factor in this pathetic corporation is money. They willingly contribute to people’s deaths while at the same time advising against smoking. It’s the most disgusting and ludicrous thing I’ve ever seen in my life. And don’t think for a second they give two shits about you. They just don’t want to get sued when you get lung cancer.

I may not have all the facts straight, but, I think that part of the fallout from previous lawsuits is that PM run anti-smoking ads. I’ve recently seen the “we card” campaign that they sponsor – encouraging kids “not” to buy cigarettes. I’ve also seen generic PSA ads they’ve done, like “we sent water bottles to the [insert cause of the day].”
So, no, it doesn’t make sense that they’d advertiser against themselves, but I think there are legal reasons that require them to do so.
Of course, the branding value of the anti campaigns is very strong. “Don’t smoke – brought to you by PHILLIP MORRIS!”
Yeah, I also think they’re required to do so. And in no small part to prevent from getting sued.
Smokers know damn good and well that PM doesn’t care. I take full responsibility for my deadly habit, and think people who pass the buck and try to sue are just as fucking retarded as jackasses sueing McD’s for making them fat.
It’s just like the beer commercials advocating responsible drinking. As if there is such a thing.
It kind of reminds me of that Hummer commercial… she’s driving around to a catchy little tune and at the end they show a shot of the earth. I’m thinking..hmmmm…. how funny they should do that, considering a Hummer is probably the most fuel-inefficient hog out there! They should show the earth with a gas mask on, because that’s what vehicles like the Hummer are going to do to it! LOL
