Ho Ho Ho

After that terrible “suspense” film, Wrong Turn, the other night, I didn’t want to take my chances seeing another suspense film. So instead of Gothika, we saw Bad Santa yesterday. I thought it was funny. Apparently three people did not as they left near the middle of the movie. I’m not sure what they were expecting … you could tell from the previews it was crude with lots of swearing. Plus I don’t care how bad a movie is, I’m sitting through the whole thing because I paid for my ticket. I sat through that god awful three hour disaster called Eyes Wide Shut, so everything else is good in comparison anyway. Of course, that was one movie where I was extremely tempted to walk out.

The thing I don’t get about going to the movies though is how people find it acceptable to eat an insane amount of food. We saw this couple who each had a large Coke, large popcorn, and order of nachos. Then the guy left and came back with pretzels. Oh I’m sorry, was the 1000+ grams of fat not enough for you? I feel disgusting if I just share a popcorn with Joe and we don’t even get to the bottom. And people wonder why we’re obese as a country. And please, it was an hour and a half movie, not 12 hours. You don’t need a week’s worth of fat to get you through it! Ick. I’m just glad they were halfway across the theatre because I’m tired of hearing people smack on their artery-clogging snacks. It grosses me out to listen to people eat.

  1. i rarely buy food when watching a movie… too much noise crunching whatever you’re crunching and you miss out on some important stuff! we have a theater here in Houston where you can buy dinner and watch the movie. not sure if they have that anywhere near Chicago. it’s called the Alamo Draft House and i just looked at the website and it’s only in Texas.

  2. Hearing people eat grosses me out, too. Especially at the theater… between that, all the coughing, sniffling, shifting, wrapper crunching and whispering, it’s enough to keep me out of the theaters, period. I only go once a year or so if I think something is going to be really good and I don’t want to wait for it to come out on DVD. I really do want to see Gothika, though. It looks fantastic…
