I want a DVR

I really wish our cable company would start offering DVRs in our area. For those of you not in the know, a DVR (digital video recorder) is like a TiVo except it’s built into the cable box.

If I had a DVR, I’d record the following shows which I always seem to miss due to annoying obligations like a job:

Ellen – I’d fast forward over most of the guests because I like the first 10 minutes of the show the most.

Double Agents – I guess I like torturing myself seeing bigger and nicer homes than my own. ;)

The People’s Court, Judge Mathis, and Judge Judy – How can you not find these shows entertaining? Like yesterday’s episode where the judge asked a defendant “and you were acquitted of the charges?” and she replied, “what does that mean?” Who doesn’t love watching people making fools of themselves and getting called on it? Especially by Judge Judy. That woman is such a bitch she scares me. :)

Street Smarts – Are those people just that stupid, or am I that smart? Who knows, but I like feeling super smart nonetheless. ;)

What shows would you, or do you, TiVo?

  1. I want one of those too, and the shows I would Tivo would be old episodes of 90210 and Melrose Place. There’s something strangely comforting about watching those shows, and they are always on when I’m not home.

  2. I hate watching Double Agents because I always get jealous that I’m not buying some of those houses! Scott has TiVo and records Lost and America’a Next Top Model (I’m sick, I know) for him every week. Oh, and Monk – can’t live without Monk!

  3. We’ve had TiVo for a long time, and I definitely use it kinda the way you’re describing with Ellen. I check all the upcoming talk shows for interesting musical guests and TiVo those.

We’ve got a couple dozen shows in our TiVo Season Pass list, including some “makeover” shows – we skip to the “reveals” at the end, when you just get 10 minutes to compare the before and after, whether it’s a person or house or car or whatever. Other things we got Season Passes for are a couple of sitcoms and some actor and director wishlists.

Also, some of my favorite things about TiVo are the ability to pause and rewind live TV, to skip commercials and to get TiVo to go find or be on the lookout for stuff we’re interested in.
