Dust and turtles

Work dragged today because there wasn’t anything to work on due to a system problem. Of course, we had to sit around all day in case the problem was resolved, so I had a lot of time on my hands to surf. You know, the internet gets pretty boring after a couple of hours. I did find some cool places to go during the summer, though, so it wasn’t a complete waste of eight hours.

I also visited a local nature center during my lunch break. They have a little turtle pond and one of their turtles seems to be dying. He was underwater (including his neck), floating at an angle, not moving. I let an employee there know, and she fished him out with a net and placed him on a rock. He was barely moving, and I suspect he’s sick. I warned her he could contaminate the pond and cause the other turtles to get sick, but I’m not sure if she took me seriously.

I got really annoyed with my camera too (the Nikon 2100 I carry in my purse, not the Canon) because the macro mode rather sucks. The camera kept focusing on the background when I was trying to get a photo of a flower. I really wish I could make some decent money selling my two old Nikons and buy a Canon Powershot with the money.

We originally planned to go to a drive-in movie this evening, but between reading the not-so-thrilling reviews of the movie playing, Madagascar, and my stomach hurting from the chili I ate, we opted to forgo the drive-in experience until a later date.

Joe spent most of the evening installing the new motherboard and processor we bought for my machine to use my old parts to upgrade his son’s computer so he could play the Pokemon game we bought him for his birthday. Now my machine is fast, which is awesome. It even feels like the internet connection is speedier. The only thing is that my machine now takes about four times longer to completely boot (the part where it says “Windows is Loading” sits there for a good minute or two). It’s very weird, and I hope we can find a solution to the issue.

We did head out for a bit this evening so I could pick up a cleaning system for my camera from a local camera store. On principle alone I try to avoid making purchases at Wolf and Ritz Camera (who are owned by the same company) because their staff is unfriendly and their prices are ridiculous. Before heading back home, we stopped in the Trader Joes to look around. My coworker can’t stop talking about it so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. They do have an interesting selection, although they are much pricier than most grocery stores, particularly Super Target. We got a few snacks, including some very yummy dark chocolate-covered espresso beans that I’m already addicted to.

I hope I can sleep after all that espresso consumption. Tomorrow’s plans include an early morning trip to Walmart and a local garden for some photo taking. Oh and I still have dust on my camera’s sensor even after trying to blow it off as Canon recommends. It’s so annoying. I might just have to send the camera to Canon for a thorough cleaning sometime before our honeymoon, which is going to leave me without a camera for at least a few weeks. That really sucks because between now and then there are tons of photo opportunities. :(
