Pepsi vs Coke

We are a Pepsi household. This wasn’t always the case. In fact, ever since I was a kid, I considered myself a Coca-Cola gal. Sure, I’d drink Pepsi if that was the only choice, but I didn’t go out of my way to drink it, nor did I buy it.

When Joe and I got together, I’d buy Coke for myself and he’d buy Pepsi. Once I started watching my weight, I decided to switch to diet pop, but Diet Coke was intolerable, so I started drinking Diet Pepsi. I’d still buy regular Coke, though, for “special occasions”.

Well, I hadn’t bought any Coke in awhile, so I got a 12-pack last week. I had a can with dinner one evening and my stomach started to cramp shortly thereafter and I felt sick the rest of the evening. Wondering if the Coke had anything to do with it, I had a can with dinner two days later and again, my stomach started cramping and it made me sick. OH MY GOD! All this time that I thought I had IBS, could it be that the Coca-Cola was making me sick? And here I thought it was all the stress that my ex-boyfriend put me under (although I still think that contributed since the symptoms lessened dramatically when I started dating Joe and I was still drinking Coke occasionally). So that’s it – no more Coke; it’s Pepsi from now on.

Joe likes to think he converted me to Pepsi, and I will give him some credit. But ultimately I’m turning my back on Coke because it makes me sick. Of course, that won’t stop me from drinking Pepsi out of my Coca-Cola holiday glasses for the next month and a half.

Which do you prefer, Pepsi or Coke?

Laminate

20041128-001_t.jpg Joe installed the laminate wood flooring in our dining room today. He started around noon, took a half hour lunch break around 2 pm, and finished around 7:30 pm. The most time consuming part was cutting the boards to go around the two vents in the floor. It looks really good though. We still have to paint the walls. What you see near the bottom is the previously blue walls. When the former owners painted over the blue, they didn’t bother to pull off the molding first so it’s still there. We’re painting it beige anyway, so no big deal. I’m so happy that another big project is almost complete. Now we need to replace the hideous vertical blinds and ceiling fan (not pictured). In fact, I think we’re going with a chandelier since we don’t use the fan.

Christmas prep

I am SO on the ball this year for Christmas and it’s not even December 1st yet! You can choose to bow down to me now, or later when you’re running around last minute, cursing the holidays.

I pulled out my Christmas stuff and did some decorating already, plus I started my Christmas card list. I came across some holiday stamps from last year (thank goodness the rate hasn’t increased since then) and I even have a ton of cards because I got them on sale last year after Christmas. Score!

Not only that, but all the presents, with the exception of one or two more for Joe, have either been purchased and are hiding upstairs in our closet, or have been shipped from Amazon.com and Buy.com and should arrive this week.

I even wrapped some gifts for my coworkers! I did it smart this year too – last year I shopped the clearance isle for gifts after Christmas and purchased a few things I knew each coworker would like, banking on the fact that I’d still be working there. I’m such a genius!

Psst … don’t tell anyone, Brian, or you’ll get coal in your stocking. ;)

Cartoons

I thought I wrote about this already, but apparently not. There is this hilarious cartoon on cable called O’Grady that I came across one evening while channel surfing. I highly recommend you check it out. It’s on “The N” which is what they call the Noggin network after 5 pm. It’s all preschool shows during the day and then teenage stuff in the evening. And yes, I do watch it because I like Sabrina the Teenage Witch. It’s cute and campy and I love it. Joe groans whenever I put it on, but I don’t care. I especially love Salem, the talking cat. Did you know that the guy who did his voice also produces King of Queens, the CBS sitcom? Well now you do.

Getting back to O’Grady … I can’t pick my favorite character because they are all so funny. O’Grady is the name of the town these kids live in where strange things happen almost every day. These things are referred to as “the weirdness”. One day it’s people generating clones, the next it’s street sings coming to life. There’s only a few episodes that keep rotating, but I’m hoping for some new ones come next year.

In the meantime, I’ve started watching some Adult Swim shows on the Cartoon Network. They are all very odd, yet entertaining. The first one I watched was Aqua Teen Hunger Force. A guy at work was telling me about it, but it’s always on while I’m asleep, and I would forget to record it. Then I found out that the cable company has On-Demand programming and an entire section of just Adult Swim shows. The other night I also watched a cartoon called Home Movies. It was tripping me out because the voices sounded like the characters from O’Grady, and after checking The Internet Movie Database, I found out I was right. I have an ear for that kind of stuff.

So what adult-geared cartoons do you watch? I’m always looking for more because I am sick of all the reality tv out there.

Sunday Brunch Catch-up

I’ve been lax with the Sunday Brunch again!

1) How do you cook your turkey? (Stuffing, spices, cooking bag, etcetera) Never cooked one before, so I’m going to say plain in a pan. :)

2) What is your favorite Thanksgiving dessert? Don’t have one.

3) What are you doing this year for Thanksgiving? Went to my mom’s, cooking our own dinner today.

4) Do you have any family traditions at Thanksgiving? Not really, besides eating.

5) What one dish does it just not feel like Thanksgiving without besides turkey? Cranberry sauce and stuffing.
