New iPhone Accessories

I recently did a month-long survey that paid $200. Much to my annoyance, however, was that when I went to pickup my payment from the survey company in early February I was given a $200 VISA prepaid card with an expiration date of March 2015. WTF? But I decided that instead of trying to find something to quickly blow $200 on, I’d be smart, so I went to Amazon.com and used the card to buy a $200 gift card that I sent to myself. We buy stuff from Amazon here and there (and more often now that we have a Prime membership) so it made sense since it never expires.

Tuesday I finally got around to researching some iPhone accessories on Amazon so I could use my credit. I hadn’t been in a hurry to pick anything out since battery life hasn’t been an issue with the phone but it’s nice to have some backup power and an extra cable just in case.

RND Lightning Cable & Anker Portable Battery

The battery came with a mini usb cord and a carrying pouch.

Anker Portable Battery

The lightning cable is even thicker & sturdier than the one that came with my phone.

RND 6' Lightning Cable

Each cost me $15 (I got the blue battery since all the other colors were $20) which was cheaper than other options I’ve seen.

TV Talk

I’ve only got a season and a half left of Scrubs on Netflix before I’ve binge-watched the entire series. It’s been fun, but I forgot how in the 8th season J.D. turns into an annoying douche.

I also recently starting watching the VH1 show, Hindsight. It’s been DVRing automatically since it premiered but I didn’t actually watch any episodes until a couple of weeks ago. At that point I was 5-6 episodes behind which I binge-watched in a single weekend. I was hooked! I love the 90’s music, even though they had to make fun of The Cure song playing in one scene. :(

In any case, now that I’m watching week to week I’m not liking it so much. I’m not sure if the binge-watching made it seem more interesting or if it’s already losing steam.

Another show I’ve been watching is Real World Skeletons because it’s set in Chicago. I can’t stand any of the cast which makes watching it rather enjoyable since I can yell insults at the screen. It’s like sports for girls.

I think I’m actually getting a little tired of The Big Bang Theory. I’d much rather watch The Middle or The Goldbergs lately. I don’t know what it is exactly, but I don’t look forward to it as much as I used to. And just as I was going to complain that Emily is never hanging out with the rest of the gang, last night’s episode had them get together but it seemed really weird and she hardly got any lines. And overall I find her character extremely unlikeable.

Some shows have recently ended, which is a bummer, but a blessing at the same time since it’s difficult to keep up with all the shows on the DVR.

Spoiler Alert

Parks and Recreation – I liked how they ended it by giving us a glimpse into the future, although I felt like Ben got the shaft career-wise. It was fun to see some older characters overall, though.

The Mentalist – Were Joe and I the only one who were thinking maybe, just maybe, Teresa was Red John and was going to stab Patrick in the final scene? I was simultaneously relieved and disappointed when she didn’t.

Too Many Errands

What a busy day! It started with a stop at Speedway for coffee and hot chocolate and then we went to McDonalds since I had a BOGO coupon for Egg McMuffins.

We were placing our order at the counter when we heard this loud crash from the drive thru area. I thought maybe someone had dropped a coffee carafe because the drive thru employee jumped back at the same time we heard glass breaking. Turns out a lady in the drive thru couldn’t get her SUV’s window to open so she opened her door but forcefully enough that it made contact with the glass on the drive thru window and shattered it. Good times!

Our next stops included Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond, and The Container Store before heading to the mall so we could check out beds at the Sleep Number store. We really need a new bed but we’re having the hardest time making a decision. The Sleep Number beds are pretty nice but holy hell they get expensive fast. I was looking at their price list and their top of the line model is $10,000!!!! I’m not 100% convinced they are the way to go although we are leaning toward a much more affordable model in the $3000 range. That still seems excessive but if it really does last the 25 years in the warranty then it would be totally worth it. Problem is it’s only that price through the end of the month and then it goes up to around $5000. Ugh, I hate making expensive decisions!

After looking at beds we stopped in the Aveda store to cash in my birthday postcard for a free item. The employee had me choose my favorite scent among several options she added to my choice – a body wash, salt scrub, lotion, or body spray. I chose the latter but it turns out I hate how it smells. It’s different than what the bare scented oil smelled like, so that was a waste. I guess I’ll see if anyone I know wants it.

We killed some time at the mall and then had lunch at Happy Elephant. They have the best crab Rangoon so we split an order along with potstickers and happy wraps.

Next up was a doctor appointment to go over my sleep study results. Bottom line – study showed no abnormalities and other than keeping a sleep journal to help me determine what might be triggering me to wake up so often, and instructions by the doctor to not look at the clock when I do wake up, there wasn’t much to say. For whatever reason, though, after the first doctor and I spoke about the results, he said another doctor had to come in to examine me and I ended up waiting a half hour for him to show his face. After 25 minutes I left the room to inquire what was going on and the guy didn’t even apologize when he came in a couple of minutes later. Jerk.

On the way home we stopped at the library and picked up a few things from Target. I totally forgot to bring in return from the car and was too exhausted to even bother at that point. We also skipped dropping off our donations at Savers because we both wanted to just go home and relax. Neither of us slept well last night and we rarely run so many errands in one day so it took a toll on our energy.

Organization Time

Organizing feels good and I’ve been doing a lot of it lately. Last week I rearranged our media downstairs so that our most frequently played board games are now on the tv shelf and the video games are stored inside our audio tower since we play the board games more often.

Yesterday I spent a decent portion of the day organizing all our photographs into these boxes I bought at Target for $10 per box.

Photo Storage Boxes

I managed to get them all into two boxes which means I can return the third box. Score!

When I went into the master bedroom closet to put them away, I decided to reorganize in there a bit. I was able to consolidate stuff which freed up two storage boxes that I put to use this morning by organizing the PS2 & Xbox controllers with one, and all my candles in the other. That in turn prompted me to reorganize the hall closet where all the candle-related stuff is stored.

I also have a collection of colored marbles I use to switch up our decor (for instance, now that Valentines Day is over I switched from red to purple). I found some marbles given to me as gifts that I never use and can’t see ever using so I packed them up and added them to my pile of jeans that I plan on donating to Savers tomorrow.

I’m also giving my cousin some unwanted picture frames and a photo album. I love to purge! Ok, that didn’t sound right, but you know what I mean.

Savers & Jeans

Man, do I love the store Savers! Yesterday all their clothing was 50% off for members (and it’s 50% off today as well for anyone). I ended up getting three t-shirts and a cute sweater for only $9. I am now running out of closet space/hangers due to my expanding wardrobe. I tried culling my shirts but I like all the ones I own right now.

I did, however, decide to lighten the load in my dresser this morning and pull some seasonal items from the drawers and move them to the closet. Unfortunately I realized I had little room in the closet because I have way too many pairs of jeans even though currently I’m wearing just a couple of pairs. So I spent an hour trying on all my jeans to decide which ones should stay and which ones I plan to donate. When all was said and done I decided to keep 9 pairs:

6 pairs I can wear now (although only one of those fits with my Cuddle Duds underneath)
1 over-sized pair (my “fat” jeans)
2 pairs that fit nicely in the waist but are too short which I plan to ask my local tailor to turn into cut-offs since I can’t find any comfortable ones at the store

That leaves 13 pairs that will be donated. It feels good to purge.
