Battling on the DS

The thing I hate the most about Sunday nights, other than the weekend being over, is that I have a hard time getting to bed at a decent hour after staying up late two nights in a row. I know you’re supposed to stick to the same bedtime schedule on weekends, but who does that? Seriously.

I’m super jealous because Joe has tomorrow off and I do not and I know it’s going to be a busy week for me. Not only am I not as sleepy as I should be, but I have to go to bed alone because of course he’s going to stay up late. I’m all hyped up too because we just battled each other on the Nintendo DS. Yea, I convinced him to buy his own today so we played Mario vs. Lugi and Tetris for an hour. He was getting really pissed when I was beating him at Mario but not so much with Tetris. It’s really cool all the things you can do on the Tetris battle, like hold pieces for later use, cause the other person’s blocks to increase, and get various items like a banana that rearranges your opponent’s pieces or a star that makes you get all long pieces. It’s pretty addictive. If you don’t have a DS I highly recommend it. Interesting enough, I just read today that the DS is kicking the PSP’s ass in sales too. I’m not really surprised since I’ve always liked Nintendo games better than Playstation.

Oh well, I guess I should try to get to bed. Maybe if I read it will make me sleepy.

Tooth aches, card readers, and DS games

Ugh. I’ve been wanting to write about so many things this past week, but I just don’t have the time or energy. My teeth have been hurting like hell the past couple of days making it feel like my face is about to explode. Since it’s mostly my top back teeth, I think it’s sinus-related, but I’m not sure. I plan on making an appointment to see my doctor this weekend since I can’t take much more of this pain.

My 8-in-1 card reader died which blows because now I have to hook up my camera to download photos. I bought the reader a year ago and so far Lexar hasn’t been very helpful. I e-mailed them explaining how I’ve tried a different USB cord and even plugging it into another computer and it doesn’t even light up to indicate it’s plugged in or reading a card. I got an e-mail back from them suggesting the things I already did. I replied and asked whether they are going to fix it. I doubt they will, but if I don’t ask I’ll never know for sure. So now I need to buy a new one and I don’t think it will be another Lexar. Any suggestions? I need something that reads both Compact Flash and SD and is under $20. I only paid $9.99 for the one I had (amazing, since I see it everywhere online for $35).

It’s been super busy at work this week, making me ever so glad I’m off Friday. The stress is causing me to grind my teeth, which is making my teeth hurt even more. By the time I get home from work my jaw is killing me and I end up vegging out in front of the tv and playing with the Nintendo DS. Yesterday we went to Toys “R” Us and got three new games since it was buy two get one free: Tetris DS, New Super Mario Brothers, and Bubble Bobble Revolution. So far I’ve played Tetris and it’s even more fun than I remembered. We also got Dig Dug Digging Strike the other day for only $10.48. Other than the stupid story, it’s fun. I hate games that have a bunch of dialog you have to read before you get to the action. It is so annoying!

Anyway, time for bed. I’m hoping I can get a relief from the pain I’m in since two extra strength Tylenol and two Sudafeds haven’t had any positive effect.

Gifts from hubby

Yesterday morning when I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth, I found sunflowers in a vase sitting on the sink… a Sweetest Day gift from Joe. He always manages to surprise me with flowers when I least expect it.

Speaking of surprises, despite saying we were not going to exchange gifts for our anniversary, which is tomorrow, Joe got me two gifts and was so excited, had me open them today. The first one was a puzzle of a beach, to remind me of our wedding, and also because paper is the traditional gift for the first anniversary. The second gift was a Nintendo DS Lite, in black, and as Joe pointed out, the modern gift for the first anniversary is clocks, of which the Nintendo DS has. My hubby is so clever!

He wasn’t sure what game to buy me, so he picked up Catz, but since it’s really meant for the Gameboy Advance, it lacks cool graphics or touch-screen capability so we took it back and got Brain Age instead. I’m embarrassed to report on my first training I got a brain age of 70. On the second one I got 56. At least I’m improving! It also has Sudoku on it which I never played before. I’ve been perusing Walmart.com for other DS games and have a list of eight games I want already, some of which haven’t even been released yet (including the DS version of Catz).

My husband is awesome, and I am a terrible wife for not getting him a gift. I should have known he wasn’t going to stick to our agreement. I have to do better for Christmas in order to redeem myself!

Just some stuff

Busy week, I’ll make this quick.

I’m getting really addicted to the jewelry making thing, particularly bracelets because I never used to wear them since I never liked what I saw at the store. Plus they are cheaper and quicker to make. Not that I’ve been watching my budget. I’m guessing I’ve spent a good $100, if not more, in the past few weeks. I do have a lot of crystal in different colors, as well as sterling silver beads, to show for it. Plus making my own stuff is satisfying.

What do you think of the new Yahoo! mail? Or am I the only one not on the Gmail bandwagon? I like the preview pane and ability to drag and drop messages. I don’t like the slow initial loading and it taking me to the Trash when I empty it. I’d like to see the Calendar and Notes incorporated into the design, but since it’s beta I’m sure there will be improvements to come.

The Office is still one of my favorite shows on tv, despite Jim and Pam not getting together. Actually, I’m glad they didn’t and I hope Jim doesn’t hook up with his new co-worker either. It’s like Who’s The Boss? where you wanted to see Tony and Angela get together, but once they did, the show went downhill. They have to string you along with the sexual tension until they’re ready to cancel the series. That’s the only way to do it.

We might go bowling this weekend and I haven’t bowled in years. We wanted to go a few weeks ago, but I had forgotten how expensive it is! I called the Brunswick by us and realized for four of us it would have been $30 for one game. That’s insane! I signed up the for Brunswick e-newsletter and got a 99 cents per game coupon that’s good for this weekend only. That I can do, since there’s still the shoe rental. I wish it was Cosmic Bowling, though. I’ve never done it, but it looks like fun.

Purple people eater

Another weekend bites the dust. Yesterday it was rainy out so we didn’t do anything. The day just dragged on forever and ever too; it was torture. Today we were more productive once we dropped the kids off at home. We hit Walmart for the first time in over a month for some necessities. I checked out their craft section and got a beading tool and a few beads. Joe picked up a Nerf football that we tossed back and forth out back later in the day.

It was lunchtime by the time we left Wally World, so we decided to grab something to eat at Lonestar Steakhouse. They have great food and the best dinner salad because they use the freshest ingredients and cut up the juicy tomato into small squares. For my entree, I ordered the grilled chicken because I’ve had it before and it’s really juicy with a buttery flavor. Joe tried their buffalo chicken tenders which were really yummy too. What is it about going out to eat when you didn’t plan to ahead of time that makes it so much more enjoyable?

We went to Kohl’s after lunch because I wanted to see this necklace in person but they didn’t have any. They did have a similar one, though, and it’s really shiny, so I think I’m going to order it, and this one too. The trip wasn’t a total bust, however: I was looking for a sweater and found two I really liked, both purple (one lilac and the other darker). I was hesitant to buy both because they were $30 each but Joe insisted since I don’t often find sweaters I like. I plan on trying them on again before I decide for sure to keep them, though. I don’t mind spending the money as long as I’m sure I will wear them often. Both are really soft and comfortable. So soft, in fact, the cashier said she wanted to get one to use as a pillow because she was tired. Haha.

I got more beads at Jo Ann Fabrics too. Now I need to actually finish a piece. That would be nice, wouldn’t it?

After we tossed around the football late in the afternoon, we walked around a local forest preserve and watched the sun set. We had to take advantage of the beautiful fall day because I have a bad feeling it’s going to get very cold very soon. It’s already getting dark out too early.
