I ♥ the 80’s

This VH1 series is driving me crazy – in a good way. I told Joe we’re too young to be reminiscing so much. I just browsed a bunch of Garbage Pail Kids to see which ones I remember owning. There are so many shows (mostly cartoons) I totally forgot about until this series –

Rainbow Brite
Smurfs
Jem (although I hated that show)
Knight Rider
Thundercats
Care Bears
227
He-Man (and She-ra!)

So many more … but now I’m overwhelmed by the memories.

Show me the money

We spent some time this morning at the bank, adding each other’s names to our respective accounts. The relationship banker asked us if we had gotten married recently or were planning to. I responded, “eventually”, to which he congratulated us as if we were engaged. That must have been what he thought too because he referred to Joe as my fiance when introducing us to the financial services guy who will be helping me invest the money I left in my old 401k account. Luckily no one asked to see the (nonexistent) ring!

Honestly, I can’t wait to get married … and not just because I’m in love with the most wonderful man alive. I also want to reap the financial benefits from the tax breaks and better insurance coverage. Joe’s insurance is way better than mine, plus it wouldn’t cost him any more money than he pays now because his two kids put him into the family plan anyway. In the meantime, I’m paying twice as much now than with my former employer for less benefits. So yeah, it would be nice to be Mrs. Joe ASAP.

We’re gonna have a celebration

To coin a phrase often used by Joe’s daughter – Today is the best day ever!

Everything is just coming together in the nicest way. Two fantastic things happened today, although I’m not at liberty to discuss one of them.

What I can tell you – Joe’s divorce is now final. As of today, I am no longer dating a married man. Joe has always been 100% devoted to me, but it’s nice knowing that no woman can lay claim to him, financial or otherwise. He’s all mine now, even in the eyes of the law.

Before we went out to dinner to celebrate, we bought 10 lotto tickets because it’s just one of those rare days where everything is going our way and since things often come in threes, I figured winning 28 million dollars would be a nice way to wrap up such a great day.

I’m really happy for us, and more importantly, Joe. He’s put up with a lot of crap before we got together and he’s finally being repaid for being the wonderful, caring person that he is. He’s getting what he deserves and it’s about time. I hate seeing the nice guy finish last. Not today, though, baby, not today.

And so begins what we’ve been affectionately calling Celebration Weekend.

Latest Cure News

For my fellow Cure fans (I know there’s a few of you out there), I have big news: Apparently that b-sides/rarities box set that The Cure had been talking about oh so many years ago has finally come into existence. It’s called ‘Join The Dots – The B-sides & Rarities Collection’ and is a 4 cd box set. It’s due to be released in January … just in time for my birthday. I couldn’t be happier!

The best part about this is that I will finally own decent recordings of songs like A Japanese Dream and Throw Your Foot. Happy happy joy joy!!!

Visa – Everywhere you don’t want to be

Joe’s on the phone with Capital One Visa right now … and he is pissed! I certainly don’t blame him. What have they done for him lately? Well, besides flat-out lying to him, absolutely nothing! These people told him that they’d credit his annual membership fee, but didn’t, and now even the manager is giving him a hard time.

Looks to me like Capital One Visa doesn’t want business … is it any surprise that Discover and American Express are far superior? I think not. I told him to just cancel the card and tell them to kiss his ass. We don’t pay annual fees to Discover or American Express and they give us cash back, yet Visa thinks they are justified in charging $60 a year? Bye bye!
