Mr Pink Eyes

After much aggravation and running between stores, we were able to go on our first bike ride of the season this afternoon. Our air pump wasn’t working, so we went to Sears Hardware, but they didn’t carry any. So we ran to Walmart and got one there. I also bought a couple of flowers to plant. I’m doing all purple this year.

Joe’s asleep on the couch now, so I’m not sure if I’m gonna be able to drag him back outside for a jog around the park. I’m surprised how sluggish we’re both feeling after getting so much sleep last night. Maybe we got too much. We typically stay up until midnight on Fridays, but last night we were in bed by 9:30. I think all that shivering at the Cubs game must have worn us out!

We slept until 8 this morning and then went to a 10:15 showing of Van Helsing. While the ending was cheesy and predictable, I still enjoyed it. Afterwards we ran to Target, then came home and had lunch.

I think tonight will be a perfect night to try out our new patio lounge chairs. It’s pretty warm right now, but should start cooling off soon. We borrowed pretty much all the house buying guides the library had on the shelves, so those should keep me busy for a few hours.

Cubbies Cold

20040507-002_t.jpg It was a gloomy day in the city yesterday – cold, breezy, and humid. Not a recipe for a fun day at Wrigley Field. We parked Joe’s truck in his company’s parking lot and walked to the North/Clybourn el station, and rode the Red Line to the Addison stop to see the Cubs play the Rockies. I wish I could say it was an extremely enjoyable experience, but the weather really messed that up. It was so cold outside and there was a monster breeze to boot. We were under-dressed for the weather, as were many fans, and froze our butts off!

We managed to successfully resist the temptation to buy a $50 Cubs blanket, but it was hard. We did sip hot chocolate, however. It was the nastiest hot chocolate I’ve ever had the misfortune of drinking, but it was warm and served its purpose. The only saving grace was that the Cubs kicked some Rocky ass. Final score – 11 to 0. Woo!

Someone remind me next year to only get tickets in the heat of the summer. Either that, or bring gloves, ear muffs, and winter coats. I wish I was only joking.

Boo-hoo

Are you ready for the Friends series finale tonight? I’m not. How can the show end? First they take away Sex and The City, and now this. There’s nothing decent left to watch now. :(

It’s time

Last night Joe’s parents called to inform him that they’ve decided to sell their house, and for now, are moving to Arizona. The house goes on the market June 1st. Wow, talk about turning things upside down. Well, that alone was shocking, but it gets better. His mom then tells him she wants to give him the king-sized bed, the kitchen table, and his dad’s tools, complete with large tool cabinet. In addition, he can have their Toyota Corolla, which is currently in Arizona, if he’d be willing to fly down there and drive it back. Of course, that means *I* would have to fly along with him, which I am terrified to do, but it is still tempting because we could spend a few days out there, plus I’d only have to fly one way, so if I totally freak, I don’t have to stress about flying back.

Obviously, we have no room for all this stuff, living in a one bedroom apartment with three vehicles already. We’d have to get some massive storage space just to hold the furniture, not to mention all of Joe’s stuff he’s been storing at their house like our bikes and his motorcycle. Me thinks we need a house, pronto.

Which leads me to the biggest, bestest news – Joe’s mom said she’d give us a considerable amount of money as long as it was used toward a house. Well sign me up! I guess the hunt begins now. I’m going to the library tomorrow to get some books about buying a house, mortgages, and all that fun stuff.

Ranting

Two rants for your pleasure:

I was watching the Food Network and they had some food cooking contest of some sort on. It’s not like I was paying attention. That would require an attention span, which I’m seriously lacking these days. So anyway, I did hear that this one woman was participating again to see if she could win first place for the third time. Ok, maybe I’m out of line here, but my first thought was, “You selfish bitch, give someone else a chance!” How exciting can it really be to win the same award three years in a row? Seems like someone needs to get a life.

Earlier today I came across a weblog where the author was bemoaning her poor credit rating due to running up credit cards and not making payments on time. Oh no, you mean, like, there’s consequences to being irresponsible? No way! Will people just grow up already? I was ready to flame the person who commented that Discover Card is evil. Um, no. The credit cards aren’t evil, you’re just bad with your finances. If you can’t control yourself, don’t blame it on anyone else but yourself. It’s like suing the tobacco companies for getting lung cancer after you’ve smoked for 20 years. Come on, let’s take responsibility for our actions for a change.

I want to write about the cool new *free* service we have through the cable company, but I’m too tired. Maybe tomorrow.
