Market Day

My mom has always ordered from Market Day, but we never could because our freezer in the apartment was too small. Now that we have a larger freezer, we definitely wanted to get some Market Day products, but we ran into a roadblock – whatever school gets credit for your order is the same school where you have to pick up your items. Joe’s kids live almost an hour away from us, and pick-up times are ridiculous – like 3 pm on a weekday. They must assume there’s a lot of stay-at-home parents out there. Nowadays I bet that’s pretty rare.

Then we found out that the Sara Lee outlets carry some select Market Day items, so we went to the one down the street, but the prices seemed kinda high. We decided to go to the Market Day store instead. Ironically enough, their store is less than five minutes from our old apartment, but a little ride from where we’re at now. Their prices were the same as the Sara Lee store, but they had a much larger selection. Plus you can give whatever school you want credit for your purchases. We ended up getting Creme Brie Stuffed Chicken Breasts, Low Carb Broccoli Cheese Stuffed Chicken, Fish and Chips, and my favorites from when I lived at home – Fruit Singles. How pathetically grown up am I that this stuff excites me?

Do you do Market Day?

I want a DVR

I really wish our cable company would start offering DVRs in our area. For those of you not in the know, a DVR (digital video recorder) is like a TiVo except it’s built into the cable box.

If I had a DVR, I’d record the following shows which I always seem to miss due to annoying obligations like a job:

Ellen – I’d fast forward over most of the guests because I like the first 10 minutes of the show the most.

Double Agents – I guess I like torturing myself seeing bigger and nicer homes than my own. ;)

The People’s Court, Judge Mathis, and Judge Judy – How can you not find these shows entertaining? Like yesterday’s episode where the judge asked a defendant “and you were acquitted of the charges?” and she replied, “what does that mean?” Who doesn’t love watching people making fools of themselves and getting called on it? Especially by Judge Judy. That woman is such a bitch she scares me. :)

Street Smarts – Are those people just that stupid, or am I that smart? Who knows, but I like feeling super smart nonetheless. ;)

What shows would you, or do you, TiVo?

Black Friday

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! I am stuffed after two helpings of turkey, stuffing, potatos and cranberry sauce. And then I came home and had some yummy Market Pantry (Target’s brand) New York Vanilla ice cream with some frozen berries. Yum! They have the best vanilla ice cream I’ve ever tasted.

For a little while this afternoon, we actually considered going shopping tomorrow, which is traditionally known as Black Friday. (Psst … do you know why they call it that? I’ll reveal the answer later). But I don’t think a $7 Lite Brite is worth the pushing, shoving, and general frustration of dealing with people on a mission for good deals at 6 am. Besides, who wants to wake up at 5:30 am when they don’t have to? We do that five times a week as it is, we deserve a break.

While many of you will be out there fighting over the last Gameboy Advance or whatever the big craze is this season, we’ll be all snuggly in our bed. And with the snow we got yesterday, there’s no where else I’d rather be. Too bad we have to get out of bed at some point to go pick up the kids. It’s times like these I wish we had a transporter ala Star Trek. I think I’ll add that to my Christmas wish list.

Overdue, my ass (conclusion)

I called the library this morning and they searched the shelves for the cds they showed as missing, and they found one of them. So they said they’d take the other one off my account. Joe called them and they did the same thing; they found 4 out of the 5 they claimed were missing, so they removed the last one off his account too. Obviously it occurred to them if they had shelved these cds without first checking them in, that we weren’t lying about returning them. Who knows what happened to the two they couldn’t find, though.

Our choices, so we don’t ever have to deal with this shit again, are either having them check in our materials in front of us every time we drop them off, or find a new library. I’ve opted for the latter since I’m not very fond of the place to begin with. One of the neighboring towns has a library that is right off the main street I take back and forth to work, so it’s really convenient to use their facilities.

Joe and I applied for access to their library after work. They called our old library to confirm we were in good standing which I was a bit worried about, but there wasn’t a problem so they must have cleared our accounts of the fines already. Whew. Glad that is over with! I was a bit surprised that they charge to borrow dvds ($1), but we rent for free anyway thanks to my Discover Blockbuster card, so it’s no big deal. I just hope we don’t have any issues with this new library.

Shoe karma

I can’t help but think my library issue is karma coming back to bite me . When I took back my uncomfortable shoes this morning for an exchange, I tried on a larger size but they just didn’t feel right, so I opted for a refund. Well, apparently they STILL haven’t programed the correct prices into the system, so they refunded me $29.99 on a pair of shoes I only paid $24.99 for and I took the extra money and didn’t say a word. I felt it was justification for that girl acting like she was doing me a favor giving me the sale price before. Hmmm … this karma thing is a bitch.
