First piece finally done

I did it! I finally completed Joe’s necklace and it came out nice except I’m a little worried that the crimp beads I got are crappy. They seem flimsy and I’m worried they will break since the hematite is pretty heavy and I broke one of them just trying to finish the necklace. I want to purchase better crimp beads but I have no idea what I need. There is so much to choose from. I’m leaning toward sterling silver for the finish but I still have no idea if I should get round or tube shaped and how thick they should be.

Also, I have no idea what type of beading wire I need, but I’m guessing this would work out ok since other than the hematite, so far I’m using very small glass beads so my necklaces and bracelets won’t be very heavy and warrant stronger thread.

If anyone has tips, please share because I need all the help I can get.

Faux wood blinds

After that fiasco at Lowe’s earlier in the week, I was not looking forward to going back. Luckily their incompetence did us a favor in the long run because as we were walking around the blinds aisle waiting for someone to help us, we spotted these white faux wood blinds (brand is Levelor) that we really liked and decided to get them instead of ordering the Bali blinds that are on sale.

The best part was they had them in stock and just had to cut them down slightly to fit the width of the window. The girl who cut them kinda bent the headrail but it’s covered by the mounting bracket, so you can’t see it. There’s a small crack on the bottom rail as well, but that was there when we opened the box, so she gave us 10% off. She also told us it would be facing the inside of the window so no one would see it, but once we got them home we realized she was wrong and the crack is actually on the side that faces the room. Luckily it is very small and not noticeable unless you’re looking for it. So between the discount and the 10% off coupon I had, the blinds were only $60. Not too shabby after all. Thanks Lowes!

V8 Splash kinda good, kinda not

I got a coupon the other day from the Sunday paper for V8 Splash. Since I’m always looking for healthier alternatives to pop/soda, I thought I’d check it out. We picked up Berry Blend which turned out to be really good. It’s similar in flavor to the fruit punch Gatorade. And while it has more calories than Diet Pepsi, it has fewer than regular Pepsi and also has vitamins and all that jazz. Of course, I was enjoying it a lot more until my lunch partner asked, “aren’t there vegetables in there?”. After that I did notice a little veggie-like flavor to it. When I got home I checked the ingredients and there’s carrot juice in it. Ew! I may never feel the same enthusiasm for it again. Damn her!

Dexter

I had the opportunity last week to view a sneak peek of the entire first episode of one of Showtime’s newest original series, Dexter, about a forensics expert who moonlights as a serial killer. He only kills people who deserve it, so it’s all good, haha. I thought it was very interesting and added it to my DVR series list. Hopefully it doesn’t get cancelled like the much-missed Dead Like Me.

Tune in Sunday nights starting October 1st.
