Fall TV

Are you ready for some football tv?

First off, here’s the shows I enjoyed last year but are no more. Yes, this is old news to many of you, but I’m just finding it out now.

Better With You
The Human Target
Mad Love
My Boys
Outsourced
V (actually I was getting sick of this one so I won’t miss it much)

I’m sad about the sitcoms because I feel like they don’t have a chance because people would rather watch crap like Toddlers and Tiaras.

There are a lot of new shows this season and most of them sound horrible. I watched the premiere of Up All Night today and I hated it. Free Agents was a bit better and I plan to give it another EP or two before declaring a verdict.

Here are the other shows I plan to DVR but I’m honestly not expecting much from any of them:

Apartment 23 (ABC)
Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea (NBC)
Bent (NBC)
I Hate My Teenage Daughter (FOX)
New Girl (FOX)
Suburgatory (ABC)
Whitney (NBC)

I’m more excited for my faves to return, most notably The Big Bang Theory, Parks & Recreation, and The Middle.

What shows are you looking forward to?

Oh my shitty peanut butter cookie

I’m off work for a whole week, woo hoo! I’m ridiculously excited about it because of the extra days off after Christmas. It will be nice to “play” with whatever new toys my hubby got me this year. He keeps teasing me about one present in particular so I’m curious to find out what it is. It better knock my socks off after he’s built up the anticipation so much.

I’m just happier in general this year because I’m feeling the Christmas spirit and we get to see my family, unlike last year which was lame.

After logging off work today (worked from home and got off early), I made peanut butter M&M cookies from a recipe I found in the coupon section of the paper. I’m not very happy with how they came out. First off, I can’t believe it called for an entire bag of M&Ms. I used half a bag and it was too much. Plus it ruined the flavor so I picked the M&Ms out of the remaining dough for the last two batches. Good thing I’m taking some to my parents’ because I’m not wasting my precious calories on them. The plain ones were better than the chocolate ones, but I’m not sure why I needed to include rolled oats. They really didn’t work in this particular recipe. Oh well, live and learn. Until this year I was perfectly fine with my hand mixer but now I’m starting to wish I had one of those stand mixers. I couldn’t bear to spend hundreds of dollars on one, though, so I’ll probably keep on trucking with the little hand mixer that is 10 years old.

Now I must go put ornaments on the tree. I’ve been procrastinating on that for a bit too long.

P.S. Go Bears!

P.P.S. I watched the first five EPs of Parks & Recreation Season 2 On Demand Monday night and now I’m asking myself why I didn’t get into the show sooner. It’s funny and Louis C.K. has a small part in a few EPs. I hope they add the rest of the season to On Demand before Season 3 starts in January.

P.P.P.S. I watched the sneak Preview of NBC’s new show, Perfect Couples, and while I liked it, I’m calling “cancelled in first season” right now.

P.P.P.P.S. What’s with people hating on rats? This is why I don’t make it public knowledge I have a pet rat – people are way too rude about it. They make great pets and I feel sorry for anyone who is too narrow-minded to realize that there’s more than just cats and dogs out there.

P.P.P.P.P.S. Has this gotten annoying yet? Just wondering. ;)

Drool-worthy television

I know I’ve been talking about living with less and spending less money, but I’d be a liar if I didn’t say that I want one of Samsung’s LED TVs. The one in the picture is awesome! I saw it at Walmart a month ago and haven’t stopped thinking of it since. Definitely a “want” item, not a need. Our plasma is still in great working condition, although I’d be remiss to point out it’s not even full HD, but it works fine. One of these days, though, I plan to get an LED. Maybe even a nicer one at 240Hz, although I hear nobody broadcasts in it currently. I’m not really interested in a 3D TV, though.

TV Addict

Has anyone been watching The Walking Dead on AMC? I read about it via someone’s blog or Twitter, can’t recall which, and I’m glad I did, because I was able to catch up this week via Comcast’s On Demand before the third episode aired on Sunday. But it’s not scary like the person wrote. Interesting, for sure, but it doesn’t really scare me at all. Perhaps I’ve watched one too many horror films? Oh, I finally saw Paranormal Activity a few weeks ago. Now that was more scary than AMC’s zombie series.

I’m starting to think… no, that’s a lie, more like I know, that I watch too much TV. But I love it. Feel free to weigh in on my viewing with what you like or recommend:

Sundays
America’s Funniest Home Videos
Family Guy
The Walking Dead
Dexter

Mondays
How I Met Your Mother
Rules of Engagement
Gossip Girl
The Event
Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Tuesdays
Raising Hope
Glee
Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time

Wednesdays
The Middle
Better With You
Cougar Town
Human Target
South Park

Thursdays
The Big Bang Theory
Community
30 Rock
Outsourced
Fringe
The Mentalist
* And in January Thursdays will include two more shows: Parks and Recreation and Perfect Couples

Fridays
Outlaw
The Soup
Forensic Files (only new EPs since I’ve seen the old ones)
Undeclared

Saturdays
Saturday Night Live (more like fast-forward through it on Sundays on the DVR because most EPs suck ass)

Damn, that’s 28 shows currently, 30 starting in January (probably not going to watch American Idol now that Simon is gone). Yea, it’s safe to say I’m an addict. I don’t watch most of the shows at the time they air, though, and usually not even the same day they air. The one-hour shows, with the exception of Dexter, tend to back up and then I’ll watch 2 EPs at a time to get caught up. Yea, as if that makes all that TV-watching any better, right?

Annoyed by my DVR

Comcast recently updated their DVR software and I really hate, nay, loathe, the new auto correction feature. It drives me even more crazy every time I use it. So much so, that I e-mailed Comcast about it. I figured I’d also complain about the new history feature too while I was at it.

First, here’s how two of the new features are described in the documentation I found on their website:

Second, here’s the e-mail I sent. I was much nicer than I was feeling considering my husband works for them. I wonder if I’ll hear back, other than some silly form letter.

Please allow users to disable the new DVR Auto-Correction “feature” because it is annoying! I don’t appreciate my DVR assuming it knows where I really wanted to stop when rewinding/fast-forwarding. I want it to stop when I click play. End of story.

Now instead of fast-forwarding once, I have to do it several times while my DVR tries to second guess me and put me at a spot I didn’t want. I really do not appreciate that. Some of us have good reflexes and can stop the DVR where we actually want it to stop. Now it’s a game trying to anticipate where it will rewind to so I can over fast forward to get the desired result. It is frustrating, and not a good user experience. The fact that you forced it on people instead of making it optional is what makes it even worse!

Trying to rewind is even more frustrating. If I am rewinding, why does the DVR fast forward a bit when I press play? It doesn’t make sense to me at all.

Also, the DVR History option is nice, but a bit of a tease. Why can’t it allow you to un-delete something that was deleted in error? Maybe within a given time limit since the data might be overwritten.

Please consider these changes. Oh, and next time a message warning people of the upcoming changes and then after the changes are made would be nice. You send messages for everything else but not something useful like this. I’m sure it would cut down on customer calls too, particularly if you directed users to the document explaining the changes in detail.
