Red dye #5 is evil

Ok, this whole Crystal Light in a non-disposable bottle thing was a bad idea. I spilled fruit punch on my shirt at work today and I couldn’t get the stain out when I tried in the bathroom. So I had to zip my sweater all the way up to cover it since it was front and center. I ran out to Target to buy a shirt and some stain remover. I looked like an idiot and felt like I was melting because at 10:30 am it was already 87 degrees! Plus I ended up spending $85 because their selection of shirts is better than the Target by me. Not sure if I’m going to keep every shirt I bought, but I prefer taking them home to try on again. Plus I get to model them for Joe. I did that two weeks ago and ended up returning two of the three shirts I bought, but the one I did keep became my new favorite shirt. Of course they don’t carry that style anymore. Figures!

While we’re on the subject of clothes, I feel I should give everyone an update on my weight since I’ve lost some. Not a ton, but I’m down 10 lbs. since Spring. I was actually 5 lbs. lighter this time last year, so it’s not great, and I still have 15 lbs. to go to reach my desired weight, but it’s a good start. We’ve been walking a mile and a half every evening, so that’s been my primary exercise lately. I think we’re going to try and get the bikes out but it’s so hard because it’s really hot again and it’s still 85 when it’s getting dark out.

Update: Ok, so three of the six shirts I bought are going back to the store. Not too bad.

Flyers

We took the kids to a minor league baseball game last night. It was a Schaumburg Flyers game to be exact, and the event was through my employer. Each employee got a free ticket plus $15 in what they call Bearon Bucks, which is good for purchasing concessions (which are expensive as all hell, let me tell you.. we went through the $15 and then some quite quickly). We also got the additional seats at a discount.

Schaumburg Flyers game

Even though it rained most of the day, by the time we got to the ballpark the skies had cleared up. It was an interesting experience as I’ve never been to such a small park before. The only thing that always irks me about sporting events is how no one ever just sits and watches the game. They are constantly talking and getting up to get food, use the bathroom, whatever. Since we were seated at the end of our row we got up so many times to let people by that I lost count. Other than that, it was fun, even though they lost. They ended the night with a decent fireworks show. By the time we got home it was 11 pm! On the way home we drove past a miniature golf course we’ve never seen before, so I’ve added it to my list to check out.

Old fart

I must be getting old. Lately I really relish getting all my errands/chores whatever you want to call them done by 9ish so I can relax in bed and read before going to sleep. It’s only 8:30 and I’m feeling a pull toward the bedroom already. Just feeling drained today.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day. For once in my life I signed up for an after work function sponsored by my employer and wouldn’t you know it, there’s a 90% chance it’s going to rain. Seeing as how it’s an outdoor event and we’re taking the kids, this could get pretty interesting.

It’s torture, and I’m almost there

I’m getting a new PC at work. Or more like, I have the new PC, but I can’t use it yet because I’m waiting on our I.T. department to buy the license for a program I need to do my job. So my shiny new PC is sitting on my desk, mocking me with it’s sleek 19″ LCD. “You know you want to use me, Nicole. I have a cooler version of Outlook, I’m faster, I have a DVD-ROM, and my resolution kicks your old monitor’s butt”. Oh how it mocks me! But I can’t do anything about it. And I found out it might not be until next week that the license is purchased and the software is installed. I’m so sad. Don’t they realize this is torture to a geek like myself?

Pillow-top blues

Don’t you hate it when you spend hours at the mall visiting several stores and trying on clothes only to walk away empty-handed? I do, and that’s exactly what happened to me today. A stark contrast to the last time we went to the mall and I found some cute shorts, capris and tank tops. Ugh. I am in serious need of dress pants for work and if I don’t find any I like soon, I’m going to have to start wearing jeans every day, which while allowed, I don’t feel comfortable doing. I also need short-sleeved shirts, a sweater, and sandals.

Oh wait, I did get a cute handbag for only $4.28 from Steve & Barry’s but seeing how it wasn’t on my list, that hardly qualifies.

Prior to the mall I felt a bit more productive because I picked up a new hair color; Joe is dyeing my hair Cinnamon Brown on Monday. This was prompted by the woman who cut my hair yesterday pointing out how my hair is four different colors. I hadn’t really noticed since the crazy colors are in the back. I took a look at the back of my head in the mirror last night and was horrified. I wanted to go with something a little different since in the past I’ve always dyed my hair either strawberry blonde or auburn. I think the color I chose will be similar to the shade my hair is when it’s wet which I really like.

Oh, and we were tempted to drop $3000 today on a new mattress. A Tempur-Pedic mattress, to be specific. We stopped at this place called Back to Bed so we could try the Simmons Beautyrest we’ve been hearing about and they also sell the Tempur-Pedic beds which, while strange, are very comfortable and don’t transfer motion at all. That’s a big plus since Joe flips around a lot during the night. After 45 minutes of trying several mattresses more than once, we had to admit defeat. We just couldn’t decide. Do we buy the $1000 mattress which will likely need replacing in 6-7 years or the $3000 one which has a 20 year warranty? Really, this was all moot because we’re not in the position to be spending that much right now while Joe’s job is up in the air.

In case I haven’t already mentioned it, there’s talk of eliminating his entire department, but nothing has been set in stone so we’ve been waiting for a final decision for two months now. So for now it’s shitty mattress I guess.
