TV Talk

So let’s talk TV now that most shows are done for the season.

Season/Series Finales

How I Met Your Mother
Nobody should be surprised by Ted and Robin’s breakup considering that she’s referred to as Aunt Robin when future Ted is telling his children how he met their mother. I personally never understood what Ted saw in Robin other than her looks. Barney, as always, steals the show. Next season is going to be Legend.. wait for it…

King of Queens
Could this have ended any worse? It was terrible! It’s like they fast-forwarded everything just to get some type of closure for each character. It felt so forced. I could never picture Doug and Carrie with kids and to slap them with two on the last episode, one adopted and one biological, is just nuts. How cheesy can you get? “Oh, let’s adopt” … “Oh no! After all this time suddenly I’m pregnant the day we adopted our Chinese baby”. Lame! The entire season was just awful, so I’m not as sad to see this show go as I thought I would be. I guess that’s a blessing in disguise, huh?

My Name Is Earl
I was a little confused with this ending, but I guess they could just pick up next season two years into the future after Earl has gotten out of prison. It was a good episode, though. I especially liked when Joy was trying to sign to her lawyer that Earl wanted to do her!

The Office
As much as I really didn’t want to see it, I admit I was pleasantly surprised that Jim and Pam might be getting together after all. I certainly wasn’t expecting that, nor did I consider that someone else from the office would get Jan’s job. The best part was at the end when Kelly asks Ryan “who was that?” and he says “no one”, then pauses, keeps looking off to the distance with his back to Kelly and says, “we’re done”. Awesome! I just don’t know what Michael is going to do now that he’s back with Jan and she’s jobless. Plus he’s going to get negative feedback on E-bay for retracting the sale of his condo, LOL!

Bowling

We took the kids bowling this morning thanks to the coupon I found for 2 hours of bowling (including shoe rental) and a free pitcher of pop for $19.99. We’ve been wanting to go bowling for awhile but it can quickly become very expensive, so the coupon was a nice incentive to finally go.

Brunswick Zone

We went to our neighborhood Brunswick as soon as they opened and they were already pretty busy (although you can’t tell from the picture above because by the time I took it the leagues were gone). We got the last lane and there were a bunch of empty ones between us and the leagues which was perfect since I’m not the best bowler and didn’t want to look like an ass in front of anyone but my family. The kids actually beat me the first game, although they had the benefit of bumpers. It’s pretty cool how you can choose that per player. The old bowling alley in the town where I grew up had these big foam bumpers they laid down in the gutters so everyone had to use them.

Bowling ball

I only bowled two games because I seemed to be getting worse instead of better and my hand was hurting from trying to keep my fingers from slipping out of the ball. I even dropped it once which was embarrassing. I still had fun, though. I haven’t bowled in years and it’s nice doing something different.

We’ve never been to this place before and in addition to bowling they have pool tables, a huge arcade, bumper cars and some other ride, and laser tag. The laser tag prices are insane, though. It’s $6.99 per person for 15 minutes! I’d be lying if I didn’t say I want to do it, however. Maybe one of these days.

They're looking at me!

After we played some games we went to a place called Augustinos for lunch. We drive past both locations all the time but have never been inside. Their menu is diverse, so everyone found something good to eat. I had the best sandwich ever – oven roasted turkey on a buttery croissant. The sandwich was so huge, I only ate half of it. Everyone enjoyed their food so I’m sure we’ll be back again sometime soon.

In all, a nice morning and afternoon. We got a movie from Blockbuster and will be watching it later. It’s called Happily N’Ever After. Never heard of it before, but it looked cute and it has a lot of familiar actors doing the voices, so hopefully it will be as good as Hoodwinked was.

— Update: Don’t bother. The movie sucked. I started doing laundry, I was so bored.

The saga continues, and ends

Soooo… we tried the Jenni-O turkey polish kielbasa the other day and while flavorful, it was ruined by the fact that the skin was really tough. So nay on the Jenni-O.

Last night I put together a list of local grocers and their phone numbers with the intention of calling each one today to see who carried the Butterball sausage. That plan was quickly derailed when I was informed by a girl at the first store I called that Butterball has discontinued making the polska kielbasa. Well isn’t that interesting? I do recall asking Butterball if it had been discontinued and not getting an answer to my question. Apparently it’s a huge secret. I shouldn’t be surprised considering it’s still listed on their website.

I am seriously considering writing a letter to their corporate office about this. No, not because it’s discontinued, although I am very sad and bewildered why the best tasting turkey sausage of the four I’ve tried apparently wasn’t selling well enough to remain in production. No, it’s because I’m sick of poor customer service from companies who expect us to buy their products regardless. I for one have added Butterball to my boycott list. Not that I’ll suffer much since that was the single product I really made a habit of purchasing. Sure, I like their Italian turkey breast in the deli from time to time, but no more. I’ll take my money elsewhere if they can’t be bothered to assist me in spending it on their products.

Butterball’s customer service blows

Yesterday I submitted an e-mail to Butterball explaining how difficult I’ve found it to locate their turkey polska kielbasa. I used to get it at Meijer and Dominick’s and now neither store carries it. They aren’t out of it either; there’s no price tag to indicate they have any intention of re-stocking it. I’ve been bummed because I have a few recipes where I use it, like my sausage and peppers and even the chicken and chorizo stoup (I use the turkey instead of chorizo). I’ve tried Hillshire Farms and Eckrich’s versions of the turkey polish sausage and neither were as tender and juicy. I really miss the Butterball version!!!

I explained all that to Butterball, asking whether they are discontinuing the production of this sausage and if not, if they could tell me what store in my area carried it. This was their response (silly grammar included):

May 14, 2007

Dear Nicole,

Thank you for your question about the location of turkey polska kielbasa, however, we are not able to tell you what your local retailers have in their inventory. We recommend asking the meat manager at your local retailer so the item will may be available at your retailer.

Sincerely,
Howard Lewis
Consumer Response Representative

Well thanks for nothing! Why “product locator” is even an option on their website when sending them an e-mail is beyond me. They can’t locate shit. Nor did they even answer whether the sausage is still being produced. Am I to assume it is since they didn’t say otherwise?

Honestly, I don’t know why I bother. I am practically begging these people to take my money, but they don’t want to help me. I guess they could learn a thing or two from Edy’s/Dreyer’s who can not only tell me what store carries their product, but can e-mail me the day a particular flavor of my choosing arrives at the store I’ve selected. Now that is inventory control. I hope for our sake the Jenni-O turkey kielbasa I bought this week is really good so I don’t have to buy Butterball’s again. You know, provided I can even find it.
