Before we left for Indianapolis I contacted UPS to find out what I could do about the two packages and the helpful lady told me to leave a note just asking that they hold the packages at the facility for pick-up, so that’s what I did. I called UPS later that day to confirm and the driver took them back to their facility, so I have until Tuesday to pick them up. So far I’ve received one credit from Sears which is for the shipping, but they were supposed to also credit me for the new order being higher than the initial one since the sale ended, so I’m going to have to contact them about that. I just hope the items I ordered fit and are worth all this hassle.

Sears strikes again
Arggggzz! Not only did Sears not cancel my original order, they shipped it! Now both packages, which are identical minus the pair of shoes from the first order that they think I picked up at the store, are due to be delivered by UPS tomorrow – and we won’t be here! Not a big deal if UPS would try again another day, but they just ring the doorbell and leave the package outside (which I really hate). I went to their site trying to figure out how to delay shipment and the options they claim should be on the tracking page aren’t there. Plus they charge you a fee to hold the package. Which isn’t so terrible, but still.
You know, every other time I’ve ordered something online it’s taken two weeks to get here. It would figure this time it would come quickly since I don’t want it to. So annoying! I really hope no one messes with both boxes since I’m going to have to return the one to the store. I have a sneaky feeling the credit I was supposed to get isn’t going to come through, otherwise I’d call Sears and have them cancel one of the shipments. But if I do, and they didn’t issue a credit, I would have paid for something I never received. Also I’m not sure if they have any record in their system of me calling about the shoes not being at the store, so I saved the voice-mail from the manager if I need it as proof that I never got my item. Right now I have two charges on my credit card totaling over $100 and no credits yet. What a mess!
Aww, crap
Ok, so after I posted that last entry I noticed I had a voice-mail. It was the manager at the local Sears store letting me know that the shoes I had ordered for in-store pickup really aren’t in stock and since they were on clearance they wouldn’t be getting any more. So I had to call Sears online to figure out what to do. The rep had to cancel my order and redo it so everything would ship to me. The prices were higher, but she’s issuing me a credit for the difference as well as crediting me the shipping charges, so in all I’ll be getting everything cheaper. However, I won’t have the shoes in time for Wednesday which means I won’t be able to wear my dress. I’m a sad panda. At least Sears has good customer service; I didn’t even ask them to compensate me for the hassle.
And since everyone else is doing it, here’s me as a Simpsons character (after the jump)…
Customer what?
Has our world become so busy and complicated that we can’t expect decent customer service anymore? I just wonder about it after the whole Butterball turkey sausage incident where they couldn’t tell me whether the product had been discontinued or where to purchase it if it had not.
Today I was at The Sports Authority looking for some new workout clothes. They are so worried about theft that they lock the fitting rooms and you have to ring for assistance. Well I rang and rang but no one came. Eventually Joe went up to the front of the store to tell them I needed assistance and the crabby bitch who came to unlock a room acted like I was completely inconveniencing her by making her do her job. Had I not really wanted a new pair of shorts I would have put the clothes back and left (like I did at Value Shitty two years ago).
And that’s what gets me the most. This poor customer service directly results in loss of revenue. Since when has that been a sound business decision? I may be only one person, but just like when you save money, a little here and there eventually adds up. Target recently lost a sale thanks to their website. I really want the new DS game, Planet Puzzle League. The availability on their site says “This item is available online, but is not available in stores”, so I ordered the game from another site two days ago. What did I see at Target today? Yep. Silly me, expecting businesses to keep on top of things. I guess money just isn’t that important to them.
Pillow-top blues
Don’t you hate it when you spend hours at the mall visiting several stores and trying on clothes only to walk away empty-handed? I do, and that’s exactly what happened to me today. A stark contrast to the last time we went to the mall and I found some cute shorts, capris and tank tops. Ugh. I am in serious need of dress pants for work and if I don’t find any I like soon, I’m going to have to start wearing jeans every day, which while allowed, I don’t feel comfortable doing. I also need short-sleeved shirts, a sweater, and sandals.
Oh wait, I did get a cute handbag for only $4.28 from Steve & Barry’s but seeing how it wasn’t on my list, that hardly qualifies.
Prior to the mall I felt a bit more productive because I picked up a new hair color; Joe is dyeing my hair Cinnamon Brown on Monday. This was prompted by the woman who cut my hair yesterday pointing out how my hair is four different colors. I hadn’t really noticed since the crazy colors are in the back. I took a look at the back of my head in the mirror last night and was horrified. I wanted to go with something a little different since in the past I’ve always dyed my hair either strawberry blonde or auburn. I think the color I chose will be similar to the shade my hair is when it’s wet which I really like.
Oh, and we were tempted to drop $3000 today on a new mattress. A Tempur-Pedic mattress, to be specific. We stopped at this place called Back to Bed so we could try the Simmons Beautyrest we’ve been hearing about and they also sell the Tempur-Pedic beds which, while strange, are very comfortable and don’t transfer motion at all. That’s a big plus since Joe flips around a lot during the night. After 45 minutes of trying several mattresses more than once, we had to admit defeat. We just couldn’t decide. Do we buy the $1000 mattress which will likely need replacing in 6-7 years or the $3000 one which has a 20 year warranty? Really, this was all moot because we’re not in the position to be spending that much right now while Joe’s job is up in the air.
In case I haven’t already mentioned it, there’s talk of eliminating his entire department, but nothing has been set in stone so we’ve been waiting for a final decision for two months now. So for now it’s shitty mattress I guess.
