Party On

20040110-party_t.jpg Last night was Joe’s company party. Yes, that would be my former employer as well. In fact, I recognized and spoke to more people there than he did. Unfortunately, I kept running into people I didn’t want to talk to as well, including my former boss. The first time I saw her, I just turned and walked the other way. But the second time was when we were waiting for the elevator and she was getting off. She said hi to me and I just made a face and avoided eye contact. Those of you who have been reading my site for a long time know about some of the shit she put me through and I really hate her for the way she treated me. Nothing will ever change that. I’m not going to go out of my way to be mean to her, but I am certainly not going to be friendly either.

Anyway … I must say for the amount of money that was spent on this event ($400,000 from what I was told), I wasn’t impressed. But that’s probably just because these types of events aren’t my cup of tea anyway. The main reason for going was because I thought it would be cool that it was in the museum. I was looking forward to checking out the exhibits but many were closed off. Plus it was so loud and crowded you had to shout to be heard and people were bumping into each other a lot. It was nuts. The food wasn’t that impressive either. Ugh. I’d rather the company give everyone a bonus instead of hosting such an extravagant party. I think the most fun for me was dressing up because as my friend mentioned, I looked good, and thinner than when we last saw each other about a month and a half ago. That was nice to hear.

Presents

I ended up cleaning the bathroom and tidying up while Joe vacuumed because I wanted a clean apartment for my birthday tomorrow. How weird am I?

Joe made me open my presents early. He got me a PS2 game, some Old Navy stuff, and Tugs (on the right) to go with my Hugs (on the left). Yes, I am a Care Bear fiend. Got a problem with that?

I really should go to bed soon. I’ve got the day off work tomorrow (I have a rule – I never work on my birthday) and we’ve got plans for the day. No sleeping in, otherwise I’ll miss all the fun. Goodnight!

What a load!

Today’s Horoscope:

As a Capricorn, dear Capricorn, you don’t really like to talk about things. Talking just isn’t one of your sign’s specialties. Each sign has its own role, and yours is to take action and create, not to talk about doing it. However, the planetary positions today might make you utter a few very deep words. Come on, tell us a little something about how you feel deep inside of you!

Bwahahaha! If that isn’t ever wrong! Just ask Joe … I talk way too much.

2003: Year In Review

I’ve seen this on a couple of sites and while I don’t think my life is all that exciting, I did some fun things this year:

January
Quit the job from hell and left behind forever the bitchiest manager I’ve ever had.

February
Adjust a bit to my new job where I have no privacy but also not a ridiculous workload.

March
Order a kickass laser printer.

April
Work gets a lot more interesting since I’m learning new things and getting more responsibility. Get a very complimentary review from my boss.
Switch the hosting for this site.

May
One of the best movies of the Summer is released – Matrix Reloaded.
Go on a little vacation to Branson, Missouri, stopping in St. Louis on the way to see the Gateway Arch.
Find out my former employer finally hired a replacement for my old position. Well, make that two replacements. Ha!
Want to kill our upstairs neighbors with all the noise they are causing.

June
Go to Joe’s nephew’s high school graduation party in boofoo Illinois.
Visit the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Whole divorce thing starts to really stress us out.
The Cure releases Trilogy.
Joe’s camera gives us a little scare, but it all works out in the end.

July
Joe and I celebrate 2.5 years together.
We start playing tennis on a regular basis.
Joe’s niece flies down from Arizona to visit.
Neighborly situation gets resolved and we gain back some peace and quiet.

August
Go on a nice boat tour of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan.
Walmart damages my Jetta.
Trip to Ohio.

September
See the butterflies exhibit at Brookfield Zoo.
Spot a woodchuck in a local park (hey, it was interesting to me, ok?) :)
John Ritter passes away, which saddens me.
Day trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

October
Visit
Lake Katherine Nature Center and come face to face with a Blue Heron.
Get the cutest I-love-you gift from Joe.
Joe’s divorce becomes final and we merge bank accounts.

November
My new Betta, Jake, dies while the kids are visiting for the weekend.
Visit Montrose Point in Chicago.
Buy another digital camera.
A part in my car starts to die but we figure out how to fix it for $5 and save ourselves $500 … so Joe buys a Playstation 2.

December
We lose the holiday decorating contest I was so sure we’d win.
We plan a trip for January and end up cancelling it.

Oh and somewhere in there I manage to lose a total of 20 lbs.

In all it’s been a fantastic year. Here’s to many more!

50% Off

Well the Christmas stuff is officially packed away. Actually, Joe got a little antsy and suggested I do it while the kids were here yesterday so we did. It feels much less cluttered in here now. Frankly, I am ready for Spring, but then again, it’s my favorite season so that’s no surprise.

This morning after dropping off the kids we did some after Christmas shopping. Target had their Valentine’s Day decorations out already so I got a cute tablecloth. I now have a tablecloth for just about every holiday/season. I’ve got a general summery one, two Halloween ones, a Fall one, a Winter one with snowmen on it, and now the Valentine’s Day one. I am such a goof, I know.

I also got a few discounted Christmas things (tissue paper, cards, stockings, etc.) including a very cute candle set that will be someone’s gift next year. It was such a steal and it’s so cute! Candles never go out of style and it’s nice to have something on hand in a pinch.

We also got a nice suitcase and luggage tags. Believe it or not we didn’t own one – we just threw our stuff in various bookbags. I can’t believe all the places we’ve visited in the three years we’ve been together. It’s really cool how much stuff we experience – it keeps our relationship fun and interesting (not that it needed any help, of course, but I think you get what I’m saying).

So that has been our day. We got home around 11 am and have been putzing around ever since.
